What to do by high barium

I have tested my water a month a go ant the barium level was 8 now 252.
The only thing i am thinking about is that the coral snow plus gives it.

    What do your guys thinking.

I use the coral snow in the mix with zeozym.

I have not used this product Wesley so I can not really help you much. Just can tell you that a quick decrease of PO4 can cause TN starting at the tips of the corals. I do not remember exactly but have you not had a elevated level of Ba in your “old” system also ?

        Hi G.Alexander.

I have restarted the system and do a triton test in week 4.
Test was great barium level was 12. A little bit but ok.
The only thing what i use is what you find above.
Change water with natural seawater/reefers best salt.

The only product i have use a lot is the coralsnow plus with zeozym for the cyano.
The only thing i can find is that barium come out of cheap po4 remover.
I dont use po4 removers etc.
So the only thing i can find is the coral snow plus. (It also remove po4 so maby?)
Otherwise i dont know what it can be.
I feed the fish only with frozen mysis what i rinse out.

If i look at my tank the first problems started with high barium levels.

That is weird Wesley, can you tell me which kind of rocks you have used, is there a possibility that they contain / leach barium ?

Another source can be the RO water, not sure how you check it usually ?

Have you used CoralSnow Plus already on your old system ?

            Hi alexander.

I use reefbones wo i use no for the 5th year.
Before the restart we have cleaned everything. We have logging out it with ro water for 3 weeks.
Ro water is already tested by triton.
            Results where good.
I have an osmopure de luxe with:
            Pre filter
            Carbon filter
            Di filter
            Di filter.

Yes i have use the coral snow plus in my system.
I had po4 issuse and we start with the coral snow plus every day.
Reasson that all my corals died was high barium.
Before all the problems the triton tes say a little bit barium 4/12.

Now we started the tank and in week 4 we had a little bit barium.

From week 4 there was a little bit cyano so we use the zeozym and caral snow plus with cyano clean every day.
            Some days 2 a day.

Now you see the barium level is 252 sky high.

There must be something what i dose what bring it in.

Sorry i really dont know anything else.

What i can do make water for a water change and send 2 test tot triton with a little bit coral snow in it.
            What do you think.

And i cant find information about barium..

            Greetings wesley

                Hi Wesley,
I too done a Triton ICP test and it showed high Barium.
I did a small bit of checking and it seems many Zeovit aquariums suffer high barium.
I'll look forward to seeing Alexanders findings.
I also found out that it is almost impossible to accurately measure Barium in seawater with an ICP test.

If you take a look on the Reef2reef site Randy says its not toxic even at high levels.
Most zeovit users report it so it must be coming from the stone zeolite

Hi if have read about it.
But if you see te triton test is good only barium is really high.
All of the sps are dying start at the tips.

I have the same problems with barium......
I tried also to change kind of zeo stone but the result is always the same.

                          I noticed this thing:
recently I took a new box of the new salt korallen and it seems really much better than the old one: no lump, easier to dissolve....
is it possible that some old box of salt are contamined ?

Now I'm doing some big water change and I'll repeat the ICp test .....

Hello Wesley and Massimo. I was not able to get much information about this element and its possible impact to corals. I also have asked Korallenzucht because of CoralSnow Plus and they have confirmed me that they use the product since a longer period regular on their own systems without having any problems.

Here you can find a analysis of the zeovit material from a reefer, it is a couple of years old but it indicates that the material does not contain this element:

                            http://www.teichratgeber.de/ma_zeovit.html

I have observed TN starting from the tips just in the case while the PO4 level was decreased to quick, also the additional usage of PO4 absorbers to the system can cause it so this might be some kind of link to CoralSnow Plus which does decrease the PO4 level.

                            G.Alexander

I have send a sample tot triton i have make the sample from natural seawater.
                              1 test only seawater.
1 test we have mix 25L seawater with the corals snow plus reccomended dose.

                              Next week we know more.
