  • Hi-ya

just wanted to stop lurking and say HI
i still have a lot to get done before i will be able to think about Zeo
while i do think i have good coral coloration and growth a neutrient free system is what we all want to achive, imo

i still need to get the sump done then get a new skimmer and caRX, the only good thing is i get a discount from the local welding supply shop so that will help with the reactor. it isnt easy talking the wife out of money, lol, it took for ever to get my lighting upgraded

my tank, 150g lit w/ 3 400w 20k XM's and 2 160w actinic VHO's in a DIY canopy, the sump while not done is a 200g stocktank which is in the basement and i just need to finish plumbing it

here are a few pics, if you dont mind

poor attempt at an actinic shot

    i guess that is enough

              Welcome Jay,
Looks like you have a pretty good handle on things already. As for the skimmer choices, IMO there are only 3,

              Bubble King
              Deltec
              H&S

Anything else is just a waste of money, again, IMO.

The one I have certainly was. I have the CS12-2, didn't impress me from the start especially after all the hype I was fed over it. I had to add a 3rd pump just to get a decent amount of bubbles, and a moderate amount of skimmate. The things I've read is that the bigger they get, the less efficient. The 3 sedra 5000's add considerable heat and use alot of electricity IMHO. Plus, one doesn't restart like it should (the new one, go figure), and they are noisy. I don't think the reaction chamber is sized correctly. I could go on and on, I don't mean to bash ER as it has maintained and gotten my tank down to .00 P04, I just feel for the money they should be more efficient. Couple hundred bucks more, I could had a Deltec or H&S. Someone has to pay for the R&D of these things. There is definitely a "sweet spot" in regards to size of chamber, height of chamber and pump.
Edward, I like my ER too, I just feel it isn't as efficient as it could/should be.

and thanks for your opinion on the skimmers, i have been looking @ the MRC MR-2R, but i have gotten mixed reviews with MRC

as for pics, you asked for them

Grotech should also be added to that list. They have very nice skimmers as well.
