  • Sand bed question

I have about a 1 inch sandbed. My question is, is it still necassary to syphon my sandbed occasionaly or does zeo eliminate me having to do this because it is sucking the nutrients out of the sand bed?

If stuff falls into the sandbed it will first need to break down before zeo can remove the nutrients. Your ability to keep the sandbed clean will depend a lot on the grain size you have. It's difficult at best to vacuum real fine sand as you probably already know. I don't think many try regardless of the size though.

So then, the general consensus is to that the vacuming is not needed. My sand is a bit larger than the real fine sand and if need be is able to be vacumed.

I have BB and I try to keep it clean. You'll just need to decide what works best for you. With a SSB you should have no issues with stirring it up and if the grain size allows it then I see no problem with doing it. I just don't think many do.
When the tank is BB you can see where it settles but with the SB that makes it more difficult to see where it's falling.

I'd syphon. The more the better.
