Near white acropora.

Well i got a few months ago some acro frags, one of them was (is) a purple with green polyps. But suddenly it went lighter in color until it got a whitish cream color, polyps remain green, all tissue is good and growing well. The other frags are ok.

Does anyone know what might happend .

Hi Brian, were you nutrients very low at the change in color? Were you using ZEOvit at the change? Can you post a picture? Sorry for the questions, thnx. Bob

Hi Bob, well my nutrients are much lower now than ever, by that time i had a DSB and very much nutrients IMO. Never used ZEO system, i hopely begin this week, just waiting for the products to arrive.

With the low nutrtients, I wonder what's feeding the algae? What are those corals attached to?

Yes GTR algae is receding thats one of the spots that still has a few, but also showing good clear clean patches of rock. PO4 is still coming out of the rocks, they have more than 5 years , had been cooking them in the last months with good results.

Those frags in particular where glued to coral branch rock. It grows pretty well on it.

I just hope it will recover good colours, when i go on to ZEO. It will be a good reference to see what ZEO can really do .

Wow, these really bleached in the classic sense. Did you have any temperature issues? Are you using PO4 absorbers? If so, how much? Any recent light bulb changes without acclimation period? Sorry for all the questions, just the first things that came to my mind...

that is amazing! lol here you go, sell it on ebay as ultra rare acro, start the bid at 1,000 dollars and see what happens! lol you never know. here i will perform a test for you. send me a frag, and after a month or so i ill tell you if it colors up or not! sounds good?

Ger, go ahead make all the questions you like. No PO4 absorbers, no light changes (it was coming from a 150w MH lighten tank) my lights by then were 150w MH too. Now i have 250w MH. The strange thing is that the other frags didn´t bleach. It might have been a temperature issue, now i have a chiller with constant temps of 24/25 ºF, but it did get before the chiller to 28ºF.

When i have the actinics only on, it all glows green, i suppose it has a good population of zooxanthellas, so isn´t zooxanthella=colour ???

PD. You can see a fade of purple rim around the base, it apeared only a few weeks ago, so colour might want to came back....i hope.

Hi Brian, this certainly can be a result of thermo-damage as Steve[GTR] mentioned, affecting the coral's chromatoproteins, & zoox. pigments[chlorophyll & carotenoid peridiens] The color rim at the base is encouraging. Try adding 5-10 drops of Aminoacid HC daily for a time & be sure to provide good current around the base. Bob
