  • Big time recession problems!

I've cut back on the start but it doesn't seem to be helping. I still have several corals that show tissue recession. What should I do?

Hi, tissue-recession can be from many different factors, including but not exclusive to, low Ca, KH, Mg, salinity, current; too high KH[>8], salinity, temperature swings, nutrient levels & lighting. Obviously, be sure the parameters are at the ZEOvit guidelines & it's paramount to keep these as stable as possible. If you are using Start2, then tissue-recession in our corals is not possible; if you are using Start1, then, yes, it can be a sign of dosing excess. I recommend checking your parameters & nutrient levels twice & post these, along with your current tank net volume, & zeo-doses. Also a pix of these corals would be helpful, thnx. Bob

I figured out my problem it was'nt zeo-related at all. I'm such a frickin prat I was looking about the tank and found an old pair of forceps I use for fragging submerged in the back of the tank. Who knows how long they been there just a rusting away. I can't believe waht a dumbass I am. Here I thought I was running a prestine system for months and all the time I was poisoning it with these goddamn shears. What an unbelievable dooshbag I am. Thanks for all your help but I think I got it sorted.

question: why is a rusting pair of tweezres so bad?
i had one a few years ago with no ill effect and also having lived in many tropical island locations i found that lots of corals grow and some even settle on rusting material! does the Zeovit system has some effect when it comes to rust in the system?

Cookie, maybe it's because the whole ocean can deal with small amounts of rusting metal compared to a small tank. But I am with you, could be a number of factors that cause tissue recession. Best to keep looking for reasons to be on the safe side.

I'm also suprised that the rust would have anything to do with these conditions.. I actually just found a pair of large pliers in my overflow that had to be in there for 8 months. I had no ill effects from them at all... It was also nothing but rust...
