    Hello!
    What would you say is the most common reason for Coral Bleeching? I have experienced some problems with Accroporas that starts to go white slowly after approx 3-4 weeks after purchase, not all of my corals but a couple of them from one dealer.
    My water values is ok, but I have been careful not to use my MH all day because of the heat here i Stockholm this summer, could that be the reason?

    Thank you for your answers!

    High temperature, and/or too wide a range of temperature change could definitely be causes.

    Other candidates include ...

    1. Excessive Radiation (too much light);
    2. High Temperature (and/or excessive temperature fluctuation);
    3. Excess concentration of Nutrients and/or Elements;
    4. Absence or too low concentration of necessary nutrients and/or elements;
    5. Allelopathy (toxic exudates from other ecosystem inhabitants);
    6. Inadequate Circulation within the ecosystem;
    7. Damage during collection (although one might expect a shorter than 3-4 week timeframe);
    8. Transport Shock (although one might expect a shorter than 3-4 week timeframe);
    9. Pathogenic ... parasites, bacteria, and viruses ... oh my

      Thank you for your answer! In my case I suspect the temperature, Ivé got 27.1-28.4 C in my aquarium and maybe it´s to much or what do you think?

        27.1-28.4 sounds reasonable and should not cause the bleeching. IMHO, Look at other causes.

            Do you use RO/DI for top off and water changes, or do you use tap water?

              In the wild, temperature changes are the main reason for bleaching. Make sure you keep all water parameter as stable as possible. Stability is the key in temperature, Alk, Mg, Salinity and so on. If you dont mind, please post your water parameters.

                Hi Guys!
                This is my tank:
                1. 480L
                2. 420L approx.
                3. No Ca-reactor but an Kalkmixer AcuaCare 110 and an Aquacare Nitrate filter
                4. Yes, Deltec with Rowaphos 2 years
                5. Yes Sander 200
                6. Yes Lifeguard QL-40
                7. AcuaCare 1000V rated for 1000L
                8. PO4 = 0 NO3 = 10
                9. CA = 420 Alk = 10 Mg= 1400
                10. No filtration, just LS
                11. 2x150W MH 20.000K (have ordered Aqualine/Aquamedic 16000K + 4x55W PL 14.000K + 2x39W T5 Actinic.
                12. Mostly Accroporas
                13. Mixed, mostly darker duller colors
                14. 3 years
                15. The first reason is to get a stablesystem and bring out the natural colors of my corals, second reason is that it would be great with not so many machines.
                16. Salifert CA liquid and Salifert KH all in one liquid + TropicMarin Bio.Magnesium and Strontium.
                17. 50kg, 3 years or more
                18. Little high Nitrate and I have had 2 cases of RTN or something on 2 new Corals
                19. RTN or similar
                20. Salifert and My IKS Aquastar computer for Salinity, PH, temp
                21. Not started yet
                22. Nitrate

                  Not so pretty....
                  Here is the other one, What to do? I lowered the temp to approx 26 C. The Nitrate could be a little higher than 10. And yes, i use Osmosis water + an sillicate filter.

                    The first one looks real unhappy and I'd not call it bleaching.

                    Have you look close up at that coral to see if it has some type of bug or worm eating it or irritating it?

                        Ok. so you tink it is Rowaphos? I havent changed the media for quite som time now and I will of course get rid of it now when I start with Zeovit wich by the way landed in my lap toaday But Are there something I can do to help the situation??
                        And I dont think it is parasites, I have checked them and can´t see anything on them I also have dipped them in Tropic Marin Pro-Coral Cure before introducing them and also yesterday.

                          Hi Niclas, if you have not recently changed the RP then, it's not from the iron-leaching into your waters. I raised that point because a couple of years ago, I used RP & experienced a similar pattern of TN. Bob

                              Niclas, gradually lower your KH, begin ZEOvit[this will lower your N03's] & maintain stable parameters, Bob
