  • NanoCube 6 SPS Zeo tank possible?

I have JBJ NanoCube 6 gallon sps tank. I wanted to try zeovit method since this tank only has SPS. Now, I have heard and are aware of fact that overdosing can lead to crashing of tank or losing SPS corals.

Here is pic of my NC6.

    Here is pic of sump.

Here is basic summary of my tank.

    *6 gallons tank
*sump with 6 gallons of water
*About 900 GPH going thru the tank. (150X turnover rate)
    *Aqua C remora Skimmer
    *Using Chemi-Pure in the sump
    *Using RowaPhos in the sump
    *Dosing B-ionic 2 part additive

Now, can zeovit method be implemeted on this setup safely?
    If yes any dosing recommendations?
SPS are growing nicely but I was wondering if ZEO can help me bring out more colors!

    Thanks in advance!

Hi oogie, you have a very nice set-up. With the ZEOvit method, one does not use RowaPhos, as the method will reduce both N's/P's nicely. With the introduction of Start2, the danger of coral death has been eliminated. Be sure to read the ZEOvit guide & understand the basics. The parameters are kept at natural seawater's, eg. Ca>400/Mg>1250 & KH-6-8/salinity-1.023-.025. In a small system like yours, the zeolites are run passively in a high flow area, kneaded once or twice a day to remove the mulm & to free surfaces for bacterial activity. For your system, I recommend the following:
1)dose 50ml zeolites in a filter sock in a high flow area. Exchange the stones in 4wks. After this exchange, the change-out interval extends to 6wks.
2)dose 25ml Carbon in a filter sock in a slower flow area of your sump. Knead the carbon bag 3 x's/wk. Change the carbon monthly.
        3)dose 1 drop Bak/Food7 2x's/wk
4)dose 1 drop Start 2 x's/wk. Turn off your skimmer for 60min after dosing these.
        5) dose 1 drop AAHC daily
Oogie, keep us posted, & repost at the end of your first zeolite time-frame for updated dosages, Bob

Oogie, go to www.captiveoceans.com click on products to find the list of supplements needed & the zeo-dealer closest to you. Sorry for the shorthand= AAHC=amionoacids high concentrate, Bob

Thanks for the quick reply. One more question. I am thinking of using zeoliths in the filter sock thats on the pipe thats from overflow box. (water entering the sump from main tank.) Now its 100 micron filtersock. Would all the things I will be dosing be able to go thru 100 micron sock or do i need to take it off when dosing?

Hi Oogie, it is only recommended to quiet your skimmer when doing Bak/Food. You do not need to take the zeolite-bag offline when dosing the products, Bob

Is that all i need for now?

Also, when u say dose ZEOstart2 and Zeobak and ZEOfood7 2 times a week, do I dose them all together or split them to different days of the week?

Hi Oogie, you have the zeo-basics. Bak/Food/Start2/AAHC can be dosed one right after the other, on the same days. Just don't mix them in a common container before dosing.Bob

                      Thanks alot for your help!

When I read instructions, it tells me I need the knead the bag that contains zeoliths in order to release the mulm. If I keep the zeoliths in a filter sock, mulm woudn't be able to leave the filtersock because it will catch it. Will this be ok? or do i need to keep zeoliths in larger holed media bag so mulm can get out?

                      Thanks

Hi Oogie, you're correct , the mulm needs to sieve out through the filter bag. Bob

Thanks for all you help Bob!

The dosage recommendation u gave me, is it initial dosing or permanent dosing? It seems like dosage gets reduced after 2 weeks. Do i reduce from your recommendation or just keep the same pattern?

Also, instruction says dose zeostart2 1ml per 25 gal daily. you recommended drop 2x/week. can i dose 0.5 ml daily? will this risk getting rtn?

As always, thank for all ur help!

Thnx. Oogie, in your case, the dosages will remain the same for the entire 4wk. cycle. Your Start2 dosage is calculated for your net water volume. Start2 will not cause TN, or tissue-recession--that was from Start1 in excess which I believe is no longer available from Korallen-Zucht, Bob

                              Hello Aged Salt.

It has been a month already now, and I just switched zeoliths and carbon out. Shall I keep the same dosing schedule?

                              Thanks!
