Proud owner of an Elegance Coral "that lived". (It is thriving whith long tentacle tips...purchased in January 2005.) It has white tentacle tips, I beleive this has something to do with ones that will typically live due to the collection site.

Pretty neat. I mean glass is just heated sand. But is there an advantage? I guess you could pretty easily clean it, that's for sure. Anything else you came across Edward?

Years back, when fluidized beds first became available to the hobbyists the media used was glass dust. It was ultra ultra fine, and provided maximum surface area when fluidized.

However, because it is so fine, when it gets wet and packs - it became ultra dense. To the point where it could switch from ana-aerobic to anoxic in a matter of hours.

It was nasty stuff, you could get some on your hands, and wash your hands, and you would still have glass dust on your hands, which when you rubbed your eyes or ate something would not be most comfortable.

I am sure that the glass dust is available in different sizes. But the ultra fine stuff I don't think would be ideal for a bottom media.

Hey DaveB !! Good idea, I guess the ultra fine would not be good at all..

                Hey ScottW,

I have not planned for MACNA yet. This year has been real frustrating regarding the hobby for me. The losses and setbacks are just unbelievable.

And since I still have to replace my 400g display tank, after suing AAT fabrication, the motivation is just not real strong at the moment.

                But who knows...

Dave, you've inspired me many times over the years. I wish there was something I could do for you, here in the desert. Sometimes it seems like when you get TOO big, it just becomes a job.

                  Regards,

                    Hey Fliger,

I am not pulling the plug or anything like that. And it's not at all like a job. I walked away from everything for almost 2 months. Gotta love automation

It might just be an ego issue. I do alot of entertaining, and people stop by all the time, to check out the tanks and torts (the 100lb beast in the yard - only torts left), so having a room dedicated to a 400g tank, which is pretty barren, pretty colorless, and the front panel goes in and out of focus, just makes it really hard to get motivated to repopulating a tank that still has to be torn down.

And to be fair, the tank - which is still an impressive piece of furniture - still has a pair of Goldflakes, a Pair of Goldens, 5 purple tangs, yellow tangs, chevron tangs, African Yellow Belly Blues, a blue leopard wrasse, a rare red headed yellow fairy wrasse, and 4 pairs of different pipe fish -- Those are just the unusual fish - So it's a bit of a moral quandry.

I still enjoy working with the tank, it's not a job, it just isn't rewarding at the moment.
