  • How about an SPS tutorial?

You know, there's a tutorial for everything, but not SPS.

Would anyone be interested in supplying information and experience to write a comprenshive SPS tutorial.

I was thinking something even with pictures, setting up the tank, checking the parameters, putting in a test monti, monitoring it over a few weeks and then building onto the tank.

Something that is easy to understand and someone can follow. ZEO could be introduced as branch off tutorial as well.

Just a step by step tutorial, easy to understand with pictures, for people wanting to take the next step but just not so sure.

    Whatcha think?

Theres somthing troubling me a little about this idea. Myself and a few other board members think it almost seems like your begging for help here. Dont get me wrong, for future referrence maybe don't ask several times within the same post. It's like you cant keep SPS and are looking for pity or advice handouts.

Actually, I'm more then willing to fund the tutorial, but I know Edward and Scott have a lot of experience which might be useful. Edward has way of explaining things that makes them seem rather easy to understand, if we're trying to target a group of individuals whom have no experience, that's an important factor.

I also thought this might be another possible thing the zeo community could do for the rest of the hobby. Though never fair, zeo has become an outcast from much of the community, those who don't understand and those whom don't believe, but something like this produced by the zeo community could possibly bring members of the community back together. We can't advance the hobby we don't all work together and share experiences.

I do appreciate your view though, I may not see it the way you do, but I do respect your input! Thanks!

A noble endeavor I must say, but I fear the other 99.999% of the greater reefing community don't really care what us Zeoheads are up to. Or worse yet, consider our method and membership sport. As for your idea, it seems to me most, if not all, of our 675 members are already expert SPS keepers and a basic tutorial would be remedial. Judging by the responses it appears you may need to produce this tutorial yourself and I wish you the best of luck with it! I'm not sure who Edward and Scott are, but if they're your pals maybe they'll help you with it. Keep us posted

Yeah Edward, I've asked you for advice before via RC and I know you have a lot more experience then I do.

I have no problem setting up the tank and doing all the stuff, but I'd like someone like yourself to review it before I publish it to make sure it's easier for people to understand.

Here's a question, originally I was thinking of setting it up with just the coral with no live rock, however, I'd like to eventually turn the tank into my display. Do you think doing a tank with LR and then the coral piece(s) would make it more confusing?

Sean, can you rephrase the last question again?

                Diverdown,
I noticed that you dont post a lot. But here a z.com we dont want to come across like this post, this is a site for information, anything anyone may want to know. I will assume this was an oversight on your part, but please keep posts civil.

Thank you and please enjoy your stay with us here at z.com.

Scott you owe me another CS match

Edward, heres my idea. I want to setup my new SPS tank, but I was thinking, since it's going to be from square one, maybe I can document it as a tutorial. However, I know individuals like yourself and Scott and other's have much more experience and may be able to add in ideas or advice that I might skip over or miss. I wanted to document the growth a let's say a Monti Digi since that'll probably be what most individuals start with. My question can be ignored really, originally I was thinking of just the monti in the tank but then I realized, this is my tank I want to set it up, so I'm going to put in the LR and other SPS but when I do photos, just take pictures of the monti.

Do you think maybe I should do another coral like a millie?

I don't get what's with the attitude? Who cares how often I post, what difference does that make? If that's how you welcome new members to the community, it certainly doesn't surprise me it's still so small. My comments were quite similar to the remarks this Sean fellow made to a fellow zeohead who had a TANK CRASH!!! I didn't see him getting a slap down for it. :bootyshak

First off the only attitude is coming from you. We have only had to ban 1 member in the time we have been an online community, I sure don't want to have to make it 2.

We are growing at a rate MUCH FASTER then RC did when they first opened, so please know your facts before you make statements that you know nothing about. We are small yes, but we dont have people coming on here posting like children. We are a site for learning and having fun. If you don't like that then I am sure you wont like it here at z.com.

Sorry, I didn't see Seans post he made, if it were a problem then I am sure I would have receieved a few pm's, I didn't but I did from this one!

You are welcome to post on here, but loose the attitude and I am sure you will get a long with everyone!

                        Enjoy your day.

I did intend mention something along those lines, I was simply electing to notify nick that the way he mention his situation and his facts seemed very fishy. Other members had brought it to my attention and as out spoken as I am, I mentioned it. The intentions of the post were not to be attacking in any manner. I was simply mentioned the way he was presenting his facts and such was bother a few members.

As for Diverdown, I'm not to worried about him Scott, you can let him off. I have no problem laughing those kind of comments off.

Diverdown, perhaps you and your friends should learn to not allow some internte forum comments to bother you as much as they apparently did. I apologize.

Scott - What's your opinion on the SPS tutorial idea? Millie or Monti? If you're interested in this or other ideas, let me know and I'll toss you and PM and talk to you more indepth about the ideas I had for a possible "educational" site.

DiverDown, I'm so glad to have your interest in this project!

It's great knowing that you've gone from a critic to a supporter! The project so far has started off rather slow but all looks hopefully. I'm talking right now with Envision about a new cube I'd use to stage the project. Aside from that I've contacted a local reefer and have made arrangement to obtain some coral pieces.

I'm glad to have you as a cheerleader on this project!

                            Thanks,
