  • German Tubastrea Method

    Anyone have any info on what Tubastrea is? I read about it.. but couldnt make it out that well. Looks like some type of growth mechanism.

    I love this tank! SO nice and organized!

    Hey, check out these sites -> those are Tubastrea(s), it's not a growth mechanism.

    Tubastrea coccinea
    Tubastrea diaphana
    Tubastrea faulkneri (best imho!)
    Tubastrea spp.

      tubastrea=a type of coral???
      Proud owner of an Elegance Coral "that lived". (It is thriving whith long tentacle tips...purchased in January 2005.) It has white tentacle tips, I beleive this has something to do with ones that will typically live due to the collection site.

        I just know some basic info what I get from Reefart (he talk and visited her).Tank belongs to Daniela Stettle,Switzerland,she feed tubastreaa ,IIRC,2 times a day with brine/artemia probably hatched.Tubastrea growand reproduce in her tank like wild fire.Cultured tubastrea from her tank she give to other reefers and they dont have much luck with them.I think she remove he sand periodicaly,clean him and then return to the tank.To rise tubastrea like she can you need to hava a LOOT of free time devoted to feeding them.
        That is what I remember about her tank,I think me and Reefart spoke year or two ago about her aquarium,is sure one gorgeus reef.

            Nope... it's a non-photosynthetic coral that needs to be specifically (target) fed. It's also commonly called "Sun Polyps".

            Try this link for pics:http://images.google.com/images?q=tubastrea&hl=en

              Tubastrea cant get anything from phyto,personally IMO any coralls besides non photosysntetic corals dont need phyto.
              Tubastrea can be feeded with anything solid,granular fish food,frozen and alive artemia,zooplancton....problem is that owner need to feed them all the time and many give up after few months,second loot of food is problem for water quality.I will skip tubastrea in sps tank,tubastrea belong in completly diferent type of aquarium.
