  • 2 weeks into zeovit

today is exactly two weeks into zeovit system. Some positive results probably about 10% improvement on my algae problem but still there are pletty of algae on my rocks. Some of my dark chocolate acros now turns lighter colours and some of the colours are getting slightly better. Water is very clear and my Turbo floater 1000 SL produces almost double the skimmate than before - the neck gets almost black after each day, so need to clean everyday. My Deltec AP702 skimmer is not here yet, probably sometime this week.

Need some advise: Currently I'm dosing bak/food 4 drops/4drops per day and 2x 0.5ml of Start per day with 1litre of zeolith. Net water volume is 650l.

Should I continue maintaining this original dosage given my algae is still alot? or should I start dosing twice weekly instead. If I'm dosing twice weekly for bak/food, should I still dose Start and what would be the recommended dosage for Start.

I understand some folks dose AAHC. Is this recommended for my situation?

    Thanks guys.

Abdul, if you are having an algae problem right now, i would not recommend dosing AA's at this time. Wait until the ZEOvit kills it.. which should be about 2 months average. Depending on your corals or if you have any.. you can continue dosing. If you have corals, I would stay on track and do twice a week. If you dont, then you can dose everyday. Since you said you had acros.. i would slowly get them acclimated to its new environment. Rushing it will only stress them causing them to RTN.

Abdul, Edward's advice should be heeded; stay the course, as there's no hurry. Continue to do the basics, optimimize fish-feedings & repost for recommendations at your 1st zeolite exchange, thnx. Bob

Thanks Edward and Bob. My tank is loaded with SPS mostly - about 90%. I only have one fish - Kole Tang which is very happy with tons of algae food on the rocks. I have not done any fish feeding at all since it is pretty fat with algae food

I will continue doing twice weekly dosing as per your recommendation until 1st zeolite change - I suppose this will be two more weeks from now, or 4 weeks in total since I started.

        Regards

        Abdul

Yes, Abdul, the 1st run of zeolites is 4wks, thereafter, it's expanded to 6wks. Bob

            Bob, one more question...

I'm using Aquamedic Reef Salt and I read somewhere that Alexander recommend to do WC every two weeks at 5% or 7% instead of the normal weekly 10%. Is this recommended for my case?

To tell you the truth, my head is spinning with salt brand discussions Yes, Abdul, Alexander uses Reef Salz by Aquamedic. He's found it to be consistent thus far, but worries that the higher trace element content could eventually has negative consequences on our corals, therefore, the lower % of WC will be needed. My advise is to stay with whatever brand you have success. I'm currently using TM's ProReef & Oceanic & doing the 5% WC's/wk. with great color & growth. These keep the parameters within the ZEOvit guidelines Bob
