  • Required jobs for Zeovit

I am just about to place my order for the zeovit reactor and I would like to know what kind of jobs are needed to be done when having Zeovit. Someone told me that when having zeovit in the tank, the skimmer must be cleaned every other day, is this true? Also, if I were to go on vacation, what would happen if the skimmer isn't cleaned regularly?
    Thanks

This is only good husbandry. You can live with keeping the skimmer dirty just as long as its emptied. The cleaner the skimmer, the more efficient it is. You can go on vacation and not worry. I have left my skimmer running alone for a week or so.

It;s not cleaning the skimmer that needs to be done on a daily basis. I clean my skimmer weekly. Agitating the rocks in the reactor is what need to be done on a daily basis. I have the lady that watches our dogs do that. I have a list for her to go by that is mostly just making sure things are runnings. The only thing she really does on a daily basis is feed the fish and pump the reactor. Now, if you don't have anybody like this and hav to leave your tank alone for a week, it really isn't that big a deal in my experience. You may have to replace the zeoliths earlier than you otherwise would have, but it's not going to kill everything or cause you to start over. I would be more worried about temp or alkalinity.

So when I start Zeovit, all I have to do is basicly move around the rocks everyday? Is that all of the things you have to do besides the dosing? What are the consequences for not stirring the rocks everyday?
Also, how do I agitate the rocks? Do I use a spoon or something?

If you are buying a zeo reactor it will have a stir bar/plate for stirring. The media rests on this plate, water passes through the media from the bottom to top. Stirring is just raising and lowering of this stir bar.

If you can't stir the media everyday it won't matter. If you can't do it for 2 weeks then you might see a slight darkening of corals which will be corrected after you resume dosing/stirring.

Are there any other maintenencing jobs that should be done when using Zeovit?
BTW, Madison I'll still take that custom reactor. Email me for Paypal address.

Adding drops of Zeostuff is the only other job. Apart from that just all the good husbandry chores that should be done regardless of Zeovit.

The only other thing that i can think of that is quite important is a 10% weekly water change.......
Oh yes and you should try give your carbon bag a bit of a massage every second day, to prevent channels forming :biggthump

Those are things you should be doing anyway, with or without Zeo

If only sumone can come out with an automatic and efficient way of stirring the rocks daily. That will be absolutely awesome (not to mention profitable for the 'inventor')
