  • Literature?

Hi there fellow zeoheads, mad scientists and reef Demi Gods.

I was just wondering what literature that you have read has made a huge impact on you, what books, or media out there would you recommend every reefer to have read?

    Thanks

    Greetings All !

I was just wondering what literature that you have read has made a huge impact on you ...
    The Classics ...

Fish and Invertebrate Culture: Water Management in Closed Systems.
Stephen Spotte, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1970.

The Saltwater Aquarium for Tropical Marine Invertebrates. 2nd Extended Edition. (English Translation).
Peter Wilkens, Engelbert Pfreim, Wuppertal-Eberfeld, 1973.

    Marine Aquarium Keeping
Stephen Spotte, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1973 (revised 1993).

    Seawater Aquariums, The Captive Environment.
Stephen Spotte, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1979

    Advanced Reefkeeping I.
    Albert Thiel, Aardvark Press, 1989

The Marine Aquarium Handbook. Beginner to Breeder.
Martin Moe, Jr., Green Turtle Publications, 1982 (revised 1992).

The "Biggies". These are ... IMO ... the "seminal", "hobbyist level" literature books of the late 20th century. They irreversibly "raised the bar" in terms of assessing the quality of all of the "next generation" hobbyist level literature currently on the market.

The Marine Aquarium Reference. Systems and Invertebrates.
Martin Moe, Jr., Green Turtle Publications, 1989 (revised 1992).

    The Reef Aquarium, Volume I.
    Delbeek, J. C. and J. Sprung, Ricordea Publishing, 1994.

    The Reef Aquarium, Volume II.
    Delbeek, J. C. and J. Sprung, Ricordea Publishing, 1997.

Dynamic Aquaria. Building Living Ecosystems. 2nd Edition.
Walter H. Adey and Karen Lovelace, Academic Press, 1991 (revised 1998).

    "Emergent Classics" ... IMO ...

Fish Disease. Diagnosis and Treatment. 2nd Edition.
Edward J. Naga, Blackwell Publishing (Iowa State University Press), 1996 (revised 2000).

Aquarium Corals. Selection, Husbandry, and Natural History.
Eric H. Borneman, TFH Publications, Inc., 2001.

Book of Coral Propagation. Reef Gardening for Aquarists. Volume I, Version 1.0.
Anthony Calfo, Reading Trees Publication, 2001-2003.

Reef Invertebrates. An Essential Guide to Selection, Care and Compatibility.
Anthony Calfo and Robert Fenner, Reading Trees and Wet Web Media Publications, 2003.

Yep ... all of these are resting at my left elbow as I type this ... all except the first four "classics" ... I loaned them out to some students 8 years ago for the science projects. Both the students and the books moved away before the end of the school year.

Students can be very treacherous creatures ...

The next time I have $250 lying around that I have no other use for, I'll add this to the collection ...

Captive Seawater Fishes: Science and Technology.
Stephen Spotte, John Wiley & Sons, Inc., 1991.
