I have used ten 200 gallon buckets of oceanic and not had any problems!! you can always get a bad batch in any salt IMO.

          I agree.

I have had no problems since switching to Oceanic.
          yet...

The guy who started that thread said he was using Oceanic without problems, until he happened to get a new bucket from from a different source.

The point is not that all Oceanic will cause algae problems, but that there is an unknown quantity of bad salt out there. Suppose you somehow knew that 1 out of 20 containers of Oceanic would cause a nasty algae problem, but not which ones, would you buy it? Some might think it's worth the risk, others not.

IMO, the risk of getting bad salt is higher with Oceanic than other brands.

I bought a bucket, used it and later found the mag levels tested out at 1600, other then that I didn't see anything great about it. I wont use it again.

I sincerely hope Oceanic continues to work out for you guys who use it. I don't want anyone, especially zeo buddies, to have to deal with this nasty algae

Maybe it's coincidence, but at the same time I ran out of oceanic and went back to reefcrystals (availability issue) I also hooked up my new skimmer. I had a weird cyanoish type algae that's completely disappeared. One thing for sure, I'm feeding as much as ever.....it's hard for me to tell b/c I don't run my tank to the tight tolerances of you zeo/sps types.

Hi Chuck, in this scenario that you've mentioned when did your new skimmer enter into this change of salts? Thnx. Bob

Bob, right at the same time. It was coincidence. I ran out of oceanic, the Deltec got delivered, I picked up a bucket of reefcrystals b/c it was available. I have now emptied that bucket so I think I'm gonna try oceanpure (it's dirt cheap, I have a FOWLR and to date noone's claimed it killed their tank). Chuck Hey what kinda doc are you anyways?

Chuck, where do you buy the oceanpure? I don't know where it's sold locally (except from the source) If that's where you get it would you mind picking me up a bucket?

I was gonna make our ponytailed buddy get me a bucket the next time he went out there. I really don't have much time to head out that direction during business hours unfortunately. But yeah, I'll make him get a bucket for you as well. Probably just have it at his place since that's a lot closer to you.

BTW Madison, that check went to the addy in Norman, OK...sorry, I screwed up and forgot that was the address I had listed before.
