  • Algae Time Frame?

Hi guys well i have been using ZEo since monday night, very pleased so far!

espically with the skimmate i am getting! its like doubled!

one quick question though, i have about 1-2 rocks that have some algae on them, i think its hair algae with some bubble algae too, its covering about 1 rock.

my question is when i s it typical to see algae die off in this system?

i know every system is different and it is hard to say, just looking for a time frame?

also polyp extension is really great on this one coral i have! the polyps are extended and out all the time! VERY pleased so far!

    thanks!

I still have some algae lingering. I have been on zeo for almost 4 months. It all comes down to your tank params

best thing to do nick would be to if possible take out those rocks and scrub them off then put them back into your tank.. is that an option?

It took my tank about 4 weeks for all the green crap to die, one thing you can do that I did, I took a tooth brush and brushed off as much as I could, put in a fish net to pick up all the algae as I scrubbed it off..

haha i dont think she would be too happy madison! i have my own for the tank got it from the uncle (hes a dentisit)

oh yeah Madison that new handle is working out well, you just have to shove it on there really well and you are all set, it lifts 1.5 leiter not a problem! we will see about 2 lieters in about 3.5 weeks.

well i just scrubbed off as much as i could hopefully this will help! i am hoping it will be gone soon like 2 weeks would be great!

i will test and post if i get a chance tonight if not tomorrow.

anyhow i am guessing anywhere from 2- 4 weeks right?

                thanks!

I have a severe algea problem - so what I have been doing is when I do my weekly water change, I pull water from the tank into a bucket. Then I a grab a rock from the tank and place it in the bucket and scrub it with my moms toothbrush - that way all the gunk is the water that is going down the drain and not in my tank.

yeah I am 4 weeks into it as of today. Zeo has helped, but I have noticed that it looks like the algea is dying, the rocks then become covered in this thick black nasty stuff - I just assumed it was the dead algea.

ok guys i just tested and here are the results,

                            temp-79
                            SG-1.025
                            alk-8.4 dkh
                            calcium- 430 ppm
                            nitrite- 0ppm
                            nitrate- .5 ppm
                            ammonia- 0 ppm
                            phosphate- 0 ppm
                            pH 8.24

anythoughts? i figure that the algae is using the nitrate? any thoughts though?

                            thanks!

Nick, if I remember right you had just set this tank up? correct? It's possible the nitrates are coming from the tail end of the cycle and fueling the algaes. How bad is the algae problem?
