  • Water temp variation between day and night?

Hi Guys, is there a noticable day and night temperature difference out in the natural reefs? If so, whats the difference?

Would it be beneficial if we duplicate it in our reefs? Cooler during silent hours and slightly warmer during lights on?

NO , there is no noticable day and night temperature difference in the natural reefs. There is only small temperature difference in very shallow water (lagune).

OK, I was thinking of setting the night temp to be 1-2 deg lower than the day temp. Thanks for the info. Not needed I guess.

        Greetings All !

Regarding temperature fluctuation in natural reefs ...
"Generally speaking, the daily and weekly changes at a given depth in coastal and ocean waters are measured in no more than tenths of a degree centigrade." (Thurman and Webber, 1984).

If you'd like to see some temperature range geographic data regarding source locations for most of the specimens available in the industry, check out the chart on page 22 (figure 8) of "Dynamic Aquaria. Building Living Ecosystems. 2nd Edition," Academic Press, Adey & Lovelace, 1991.

        Just FYI.
