What I have always done is to soak the socks in a bucket with bleach/water mixture. Then they go into the washing machine w/o soap then the drier. I’ve never had a problem doing this.

I just turn it inside out and take it outside and pressure spray them. I only run them when I'm stirring up the gunk in the tanks and not full time. I turn off the ball valves on the returns on all but one tank at a time so all 5,500 GPH is going through one 44g raceway tank.

Mine are still somewhat brown but I think they are clean enough.

Soap could still stay in the washing machine, this is a HUGE risk to do it this way. There is no way to guarantee that you will get out the soap. Be very careful doing it this way guys. Hate to see you lose corals.

I have 6 socks in rotation, so every 5 weeks I turn the dirty ones inside out, drop them into the washing machine with a cup of bleech to soak for an hour or so then wash them on the gentle cycle. I then fill the machine up and add some amquel, let them soak for an hour or so and wash again on the gentle cycle.. I hang them up to dry.. seems to be working alright so far.

I drop mine in the washing machine with a cup of plain bleach. I wash them twice, first time with bleach, second time without. Then I leave them outside to dry for a minimum of 3 days in the sun. Works perfectly.

My kid has an outdoor playhouse, and I find that the filtersocks fit perfectly between the fence spokes. No need to clip them to a clothesline.
