  • Ready to go ZEO

I think I'm ready to go ZEO with my mixed reef. I keep an assortment of SPS, LPS, anemones, and fish. I'd prefer not to use a reactor. . .I also currently use kalkwasser, Polyfilters, and Chemipure or Bio ChemZorb which I'll have to discontinue.

    Here's my information:

Please give us answers to the following questions in order to get more accurate dosing recommendations.

    1. Gross water volume of your complete system (incl. sump etc.)
    Estimated at 110gallons (US)
    2. Net water volume (incl. sump etc.)
    Estimated at 80 gallons (US)
    3. Are you using a CaCO2 reactor or other technique
Replacement water is non-saturated kalkwasser, approximately 1/2 teaspoon per gallon, along with B-Ionic 2 part for additional adjustments
    4. Are you using a PO4 reactor (how long, how long ago, etc.)
    No
    5. Are you using Ozone
    No
    6. Are you using UV
    No
    7. What skimmer are you using (type, rated water volume)
ER CS8-1 rated at 135 gallons
    8. What are your actual PO4 and NO3 levels
    PO4 at 0, NO3 at <.02
    9. What are your actual Ca, Alk and Mg levels
    CA ~ 430, ALK ~ 8.3dKH, Mg ~ 1320
    10. What filtration method do you use (refugium, DSB, Miracle Mud, etc.)
Refugium with Miracle Mud and chaetomorpha
    11. Type of light (Watt, color temp, how old, etc.)
    2 X 250 DE 10K, 1 X 150 DE 20K Aquaspacelight mounted at 10" above water's surface. Lamps are 9 months old
    12. What corals do you keep
A few SPS, several LPS, mushrooms, zoos, BTAs
    13. Tissue color (light or dark)
    Dark but colorful
    14. How long has the tank been running
    15 months
    15. Why do you want to use the ZEOvit system
My goal is to reduce nuisance algae (both micro and macro), and improve the overall health of my system
    16. Any supplemental dosing (type, amount, why, etc.)
    None
    17. Live rock (how much, how old, etc.)
    175 pounds, 15 months old
    18. Any present problems
Some nuisance algae, growth and coloration of corals not at desired levels
    19. Problem description (tissue loss tips, tissue loss base, diatom bloom, algae, etc.)
diatoms, bubble algae and some caulerpa
    20. What test kit do you use (how old, recently switched, etc.)
    Salifert
    21. Present dosing, amounts and intervals (ZEOvit, ZEObak, ZEOfood, ZEOstart, ZEOspur2, etc.)
    N/A
    22. Other water parameters and water stability (salinity, temp, etc.)

Hi Bob I'm sure you'll do fine with the bagged zeolites technique--place them in a high flow area of your sump or on the overflow. For the first 4wks. dose 1/2ltr. zeolites, knead 1-2x's/day & change after 4wks. Thereafter, exchange the stones every 6wks, & increase the zeolite quantity to 3/4 ltrs. Dose 3/4 Cup carbon in a low flow area, knead every other day. Exchange these every 4wks. Dose bak/food---2drops/2drops daily for 2wks., then, 2drops/2drops 2x's/wk. Dose the zeo's, if possible, in front of the stones. Dose Start--2ml daily for the 1st 2wks. then, .5ml 2x's/day. Bob, keep us updated & ask any questions if necessary. Bob
