  • Best aquariums????

What is that acrylic aquarium place called that makes "museum quality aquariums" and round jellyfish tanks???

Here is why: Lets face it, U-tube overflows are BAD. I have to continually watch it so I hope that it doesnt overflow...what about my 2 week vacation? what if it overflows? that would be bad.

therefore, I need(want) a new aquarium, not another one, no, but one to replace my 75 gallon that is the same length to fit on the current stand. So a 120g. comes into play. Yes, that would be peerrrfect. I could get built in overflows and built in returns.

It would hang over the edge of the stand, yes, but I will install a 2x4 along the back to make up for the lost wood(added wood, really). It would work, somebody besides me in my family said it would.(nevermind...)

anyhow, 120, I dont have money for you, ..... but I will somewhere around August 2005.

Now for the big, big, big, BIG question. Acrylic, or glass? :devil2: I know I am going to have a black background...prehaps black acrylic???

and...the bb thing...well...i will be honest. i dont do the weekly detrious siphoning, or water changes. More like once every 2 or 3 weeks.

sand. the question comes up...could I??? I mean, the bb thing....well lets face it sand looks good. I am not thinking about a DSB...that would be..... Therefore...sand. Good, or bad? Friend, or foe? I was thinking one inch. Would that cause any probs....I am almost scared of sand...like....it is some angry pineapple about to explode in my face(like that makes any sense...).

I was thinking (2) corner overflows...not those curved plastic ones...those are cheap. I was thinking the thick 1/4" acrylic black overflows with the slots in them...ofcourse...............I could just git some holes drilled and use a 90 degree pvc pipe angled correctly to get the right amount of water level I want...I have seen that done before by more than one reef aquarist. But I dont know...it kind of looks tacky IMO. I also kinda think it would not be good to have drilled return holes because they could never be changed...you know what I mean??? I mean they are there forever(in most cases) SO away with them and just have drillled overflows??

What do you guys think about all this.....

and another thing comes up..scary idea...the FOAM background. You know, with that great stuff foam and some sand, dead LR, it is a cool concept to me, I like it. I mean it appears as there is no end to the reef tank! I really like that idea.....what about that??

    Opinions?? Ideas?? Price!???

I have a 120 bb with an overflow that I installed I drilled two holes in the center rear of the tank in the bottom and added 2 1" 1/2 pvc pipes a couple of inches away from the top braces of the tank. My tank is bb and I love it, its great I dont siphon very often at all almost never, I have two large rio poweheads on opposite bottom corners in the tank so the water flows in a circular pattern. I use the black backaground poster type stuff looks ok. One thing you might want to consider is if you are going to keep stonys I would find a tank thats not tall and skinny IMO.

yeah a 120 is 48x24x24 some consider it the "perfect" sps tank...it is the biggest possible tank size for the area I have...

Adam, you might want to tighten the strings on your head cover before they give you the price.

hrmm...there was this one store that I visited once that said he could make acrylic aquariums and skimmers....I made all his tanks for his own store...I will have to contact him.

                        Here is something:

IF I jost got a standard 120 gallon acrylic aquarium with NO overflows, holes, etc. could I get the acrylic required, cut it to shape, and glue it togeather and use a hole saw to drill the hole in the bottom of the acrylic myself?? I mean, a hole saw would do it, right? It could, would be cheaper and easier to order just telling them I want a standard 120 gallon...

glasscages sells cheap(er) glass tanks but i read they are of less aqulity but hey it is a aquarium........

I got a quote from Envision when I had my new tank built (48x29x24) and he came in at $750 for the tank and $250 for crating and shipping. That price was very reasonable I thought - I ended up paying a local custom-builder the same price minus the shipping.

There is no way you can get a new 120g acrylic tank for $200. Just the material alone costs twice that, assuming they are using good acrylic (you want 1/2" cell cast, Acrylite or similar). If you found someone offering a tank that cheap - run as fast as you can, because no telling where they cut corners.

I know where... since you'll never see it they don't put a bottom in it.
