  • Which zeo products cause bacterial film/growth when overdosed?

My current dosages on my 75 are: 2 drops bak and food 2x weekly (EOD 2 weeks after changing zeolites), 1 drop AA, 2 drops PIF and 1 drop iron 2x weekly. I am not currently using start (I will be starting start 2, as soon as I get it from Madison.).

I have bacterial film on my glass and rocks, and am wondering which dosage(s) to reduce.

    Tom
Current Tank: 75g sps restarted with ZEOvit August 2004, Aqua Connect 14K 250W SE MH x 2, SLS HQI ballasts, 54W blueplus T5s x 2, H&S A150 external (recirculating) skimmer, Tunze Stream 6060, 6000 with single controller, Geo Ca reactor, in-sump ZEOvit reactor from Madison, Aquacontroller

Hi Tom, when did you stop start1 in this scenario? Do you allow > 6wks. between zeolite changes? Is your RODI product water high in TDS? Is your zeolite filter flow > 100gph/100g net volume? Are you using <1ltr. zeolite/100g net volume? All of the above, along with excess bak,food7, & start1 can result in brownish/green thick bacterial films, slimey accumulations as well as coral consequences. Bob

Do you allow > 6wks. between zeolite changes?

      no

Is your RODI product water high in TDS?

      no, 0

Is your zeolite filter flow > 100gph/100g net volume?

      no

Are you using <1ltr. zeolite/100g net volume?

      no

I guess I will try reducing the bak and food7.

Will AAHC cause this, as well?

Hi Tom, yes, AAHC & any of the zeo-supplements in excess will cause a thick film accumulation or slime build-up. With the proper ZS2 dosage, reduction of Food7 by 50% quantities is recommended. I also would recommend dosing Fe only once/wk. Have you tried holding all zeo-supplements for a time[1-2 wks] to see if these are a factor here? Bob
