Update Dosing recommendation ZeoStart2:

After getting more experience with ZeoStart2, we have worked out a “safe” start-up dosing recommendation for ZeoStart2. We wish to emphaze that it is very difficult to give a exact dosage for each tank – there are too many factors.

First, overdosing signs are darker tissue of the corals, also the accumulation of a brown slime (bacteria) which can contain bubbles at the sand & the rocks.

If one noticed one of these signs, it is recommended to reduce the dosage.

> Doser:
> Phase 1--0.2ml every 2hrs./100g/400l net
> Phase 2--0.1ml every 2hrs/100g/400l net
> Phase 3--0.1ml every 4hrs/100g/400l net

> Manual:
> Phase 1--0.6ml 2x's/day/100g/400l net
> Phase 2--0.3ml 2x's/day/100g/400l net
> Phase 3--0.2ml 2x's/day/100g/400l net

It is also possible, different tanks may need to increase the dosage but this depends on many factors.

It is the goal to dose as much as necessary to effectively decrease nutrients, without getting the above overdose signs.

Again, this is only a recommendation for the initial period, as the ZeoStart2 dosage may need tailoring based on the aforementioned excess effects.

ZeoStart2 can be dosed once/day or best, by splitting the total quantity into multiple doses, especially with a dosing meter.

Thanks Bob. I'll be doing the manuel dosing, until I decide to buy the dosing meter. How do we determine what phase. This is my second change out of zeolites so am I phase 2 ? or do I need to go to Phase 1?

Okay Bob I'll go with Phase 2. One more question. Is the start2 dosed 2 x daily 7 days a week? Every week or will the dosing schedule be the same as for start1. Will it eventually only need to be dosed 2 times a week??

Bob, my German is not very good but in the German forum I picked up that if you use Amino Acids and Start2 then Zeofood becomes obsolete.

Did I understand that correctly?

Hi Timon, if one is dosing Start2, bak/food7 in lower quantities will be necessary[read:can be used] for maintenance of the specialized bacteria, as Start2 will be available as a carbon source for nourishing the bacteria. This has been my experience after 1 mo. of using Start2. If you check my recommendations on zeo-dosing for Reeftreasures[Kevin] last night, I asked him to use lower amounts of bak/food if he was using Start2, as we can now safely use higher quantities of Start2 for the method. I would agree that it is possible to not use Food7 with Start2 dosing, & in my 450g system, with Start2 after my first two wks. it became apparent to me that the system ran well with Start2 alone, no bak or food. However, I recommend using bak/food, just in minimal doses at this time, as this does keep the bacteria density higher, as evidenced by increased skimmer function after dosing these with Start2.

I see you mentioned as for new dosage is per 100 gallons.With me I would think,it's phase 3 at this point.I figured total volume is 150 gallons.Should I go with 100 gallons measurement dosage 0.1.Or up it a bit?I haven't decided which way to go,as for manual or dosing method.I do have Barbara around here.Where she could dose every 4 hours,like you said.I know you are still in the testing stages with the new Start 2.Maybe I missed something here.With the dosing machine is this run 24/7every four hours a dose is added?Just want to clear this up.
