  • Sad Day, Im throwing in the towel on SPS :(

Hey guys unfortunately. I will not keep pursuing the upkeep of an sps dominated tank. The recent bouts I have had with my Mg and Alk have taken a toll on my coral, and me. I doubt that I will discontinue using all Zeo products due to the fact that my results with Zeo have been great until recently, in the last few months. Furthermore, I just dont have the time to deal with testing, dosing, testing, dosing, testing, you get the point, in order to keep the tank stable enough for these guys. I am converting the tank back to rare Lps, rics, aqnd zoas once again. If anyone has experience with a non sps tank on Zeo please post your comments of your experience. AALPS, ect.

----Like I said Im not leaving the Zeo family Just switching outlooks

    are your corals actually dying?
Are your corals keeping their color?
    are your corals growing?

To be honest, I never test, or dose according to the tests, just run my calcium reactor and monthly water changes and everything is fine, and growing...
Proud owner of an Elegance Coral "that lived". (It is thriving whith long tentacle tips...purchased in January 2005.) It has white tentacle tips, I beleive this has something to do with ones that will typically live due to the collection site.

The problem mostly lies on stability, without a reactor my params are easily swayed. I do not have the time to put into keeping these guys at the moment. Tissue loss is prevelent all over the corals, and to a point where the tissue will not come back. It sucks but, I have lost a lot of money in live stock lately and cannot afford it anymore. I need to stress that this is by no means ZEO RELATED. Its a personal choice that I have been pondering for a while.

Adam: I wish I can say the same for my tank, but I cannot. A buddy of mine is the same way, never tests just doses and his corals flourish.

Sorry to hear about this.. but I wouldnt loose hope just yet. If I were in your shoes, I would stop buying corals for a while.. LPS, softies, etc and invest in a CA reactor. You may think that a Ca Reactor is only for SPS, but its not. A Ca Reactor also replenishes Strontium, Iodine, etc that a softy or LPS would need to bring its health to optimum levels. For example, an LPS also has a bone structure.

Adam, I feel your method is a failure waiting to happen... This is my personal opinion.. I agree with Edward and Nick.. I went yrs without a Ca Rx but since I have one I will NEVER go back to a tank without Sps or Lps.... STABILTY is the key and the Rx once dialed in really made my reef keeping more enjoyable with less testing.. I test weekly now..

Sean, you're close to success. Consider a Ca Rx & Start2 will be available next wk & this stuff is non-toxic to our corals & will revolutionize the ZEOvit method with it's ability to give our corals a deep, strong colors Bob

Guys, you make it hard for me . The Ca Reactor would be good I totally agree. The only thing I do not get is how a Ca rx would work on my tank. Ca is always at 500 w oceanic. The only thing I could think of is to find a Salt that is low alk and low ca? I think if I did this it would solve a lot of problems associated with my corals. My coral tissue has been so thin for months, its like I lost all hope .

Nick: Im addicted too, you dont understand how frustrated I am with my tank.

do like Bob use 70 30 oceanic / Trop marine and the cal reactor will hold everything stable also w/o that the Cal reactor will stableize the Alk for u

                        Diesel,
If you want to stay, I will donate a used Marine Life Aquatics Calcium Reactor for you to have. I needs a couple of fittings, and a CO2 bottle and Reg, but its a start. PM for details. Like Bob said, you are very close to it, hang in a little longer and you will get there. Get your param's stable first, and you will see the results you long for.
