  • XM 10k vs XM 20k Please help.

I am running 2 XM 10k's 250w SE on a Dual PFO and they are BRIGHT!!! So here is my question.

What will the 20k's cut the growth rate down by? 1/8 1/4 1/3 1/2

Hard to really say. Nutrient load will play a role plus stability. It would be different for everyone.. I know I would not run 10k without actinic supplimentation for sps color... Just my 2 cents..

I have a 75 gallon with (2) 10k XM 250 SE bulbs, and (2) 110w VHO atentics, and next year I am going to swap out the 10k's for 20 k's when I have a lot of growth. IMO, get the "yellow" bulbs that make your acro's and sps grow fast in the beginning, and then when your corals are grown out into at least small colonies (3" in diameter at least) then get the bulbs that really make them glow. They wont grow as fast probably, but they sure will look good, JMO.

I like using the 10K and 20K bulbs plus actinics. That way you get good growth and color. Not sure how you can run these using only 2 bulbs. You may want to try the 14K bulbs. I'm going to change my 10K for 14K when it's time to replace them. Then I'll have 14K and 20K. And see if the colors hold or get better.

See I am back where I started. So many choices! But I do appreciate everyones help. Maybe I will just get 1 20k to test it rather than dropping the money on 2.

          Thanks,
          Todd

And now to add to the confusion how about AC/phoenix 14K bulbs. There suppose to have almost the same par as 10k xm but are bluer.

If at first it doesn't fit get a bigger hammer - Beat to fit paint to match
