  • What is with this madness???

OK, I have been noticing recently that ALOT of Acropora efflorencens colony's and bali colonies have been imported recently. They all seem to be light or dark brown with a faint purple rim. Why then are the prices so high? I mean, a 2" bali efflo "super rare hardly seen" that is brown for $120. What!?! That is madness! Or, a 4" BROWN wild colony, "AWESOME" FOR $180. Whats with that? Thats crazy, I sure wouldnt pay that for a brown coral, and well, IMO thats just crazy.

Anybody else notice all this madness recently???

Hi Adam, it does seem like Acroporas are sometimes collected in bunches--maybe due to the collectors changing harvesting areas from time to time. As to the prices, you know it's supply & demand that dictates the market Bob

I remember when rose anemones were $200.

Will the same thing happen with efflo's???

i don't think bali ac will get down to the rbta prices on a retail level, anemones are pretty easy to care for by the average reefer. prices on those efflos also vary a lot depending on location. i have a LFS by me that is known to rape and pillage customers on pricing, yet they have a huge 6-7" wide efflo for around $160 and a smaller one around 5-6" for 140

                  Most LE corals started brown.

Efflos are an advance keep for advanced hobbyists, it takes more time for them to regain a brillant color then lets say, a Millie.

As for the price, I think it may eventually drop, but not much. You see, theres a demand and even though they have a supply, the market works in favor of them. As long as people will pay $150+ then that's what they are going to sell for.

Opening your store really won't help you affect the market.

Distributors are the ones who have control on the market, you need to take over an importer, then you can have some say.
