  • Need Help with making fish food?

Hey guys i want to make my own fish food, what should i put in it?

    i was thinking,

    fresh clams
    some fresh shrimp
    some mysis shrimp
    some garlic

what else? i was going to chop it up and then throw it in the food processor just to get it bit size.

    thanks!

Here's my thoughts - depending on what species of fish you have you could add some seaweed such as nori, I don't know if you have it in the US, but here in New Zealand we have growing at the beach what are called green lipped mussels, an excellent fish food just on it's own.
Blend, as you say, then soak in RODI for a couple of hours and the seive. This to remove excess Po4 and matter that is too small for the fish to eat.
My personal choice would be little / no garlic, I'd feed that seperately if required.

thanks yeah i am adding some nori sorry i didnt put that on the list and i knwo to soak the food and use a small fine net.

but why no garlic? you always here it helps with ick and the immune system in fish?

      thanks!

OK, here's an article on garlic http://www.reefs.org/library/article...tes-jorge.html
From personal experience, I believe garlic is effective against ich, although of course it is impossible to proove. Also, when I,ve fed it, the fish do enjoy it and seem to look the better for it.
However, the down side is too much can do liver damage. For this reason I'd personally avoid a situation where it is being fed daily / continously. But that is just my opinion only, just a precaution. I think some do feed it regularly, may be OK but I'd rather play safe. Not telling anyone else what to do though!

Yes, should always be kept as chilled as possible.
I blend mine in RO, not sure if that's important or not though.
Once you get it all done, you will have to share your recipe with us!
