  • Colony not coloring up..

I've bee doing Zeo for about 10 weeks now. My parameters seem to be in line:
    Ca 420-440
    Mg 1350
    Alk 8-9
    pH 7.9- 8.29
salinity 1.025... My net is around 66 gallons. I dose 1/3 liter stones, 1 ml start daily(split), 2 drops/food-bak 2-3 times a week, 1/2 cup carbon. I upgraded my lights from 2 x 150 10k HQI to 2 x 250 10k + 2 54 T-5 about 3 weeks ago. In general my reef is doing well, but there is one larger colony, and one smaller colony that will just not color up! The big one is a thick branched acro which was a lavender color originally( its basically a light brown now), and the other is a smaller acro about 4 branches ( also light brown). Growth for these has been fine, but not getting any color. I had started dosing AAHC, but every time I do I get brown slime starting...

Any ideas on all this.... Bob???- Thanks

bring down the dosage of your AA's. And there will always be that stubborn coral that will not color up until MONTHS.. not wks. Could be 6 months. Just be very patient.

          NYFIREMAN,
Exactly!! Its like they are just about to bust out in purple, but they don't. They just stay kind of dark, no real kind of color......

As Edward, mentioned it may involve a few more months before all corals are lightened. This still has to due with pooled nutrients to be extracted. If your system is not building up diatoms rapidly, or tissue-tips are not thinned, try increasing Start to .5ml 3x's/day daily. It's still too early to think about Spur2, but this would be a consideration in 6wks. Bob

Hi Nick, you will get good color & growth. Interestingly, for no real reason, your corals will suddenly undergo transformation, similar to them awaking from a winter's nap I've seen this over & over again, maybe it has to do with alternating their energy sources from the zoox. to other ambient nutrition, which takes adaptive time. This is a different time frame for each coral. Bob
