  • first coral with brown.

I bought my first coral with brown on it. I am going to see how long it takes till the brown is all gone. Also I am going to look in the picture section for an id on this one but if someone wants to tell me what it is that would be cool.

That looks exactly the same as one I've got, I had thought it was a humilis. What is the difference?
I just searched A.samonesis on google, no results.
My one was also a dark instant coffee brown when I got it, but with awesome floro green polyps. Now maybe 4 months later, still brown but very light, with a red hue, although from a distance it looks green, because of the polyps.

Alastair, I'm not an expert on ID's but A.humilis columns are thicker & more uniform. A.samonesis are more narrow, irregular with more lateral column branches coming off. Tim's Acropora also resembles A.digitifera, & the more I look at it, I really think it is Bob

Tim, yes I'll get a pic up, but will not be today.
Bob, thanks, yes this coral ID is a tricky business.
And Bachir, what a great link!! I'm going to save that in my favorites, very useful

It should color up fast, I am doing the same experiment, but am using total brownouts that I picked up for cheap. Both are regaining color already(1 wk) and had some tissue loss that stopped and is now healing Good luck

wow if you consider that coral brown, then i don't want to show some of the stuff i picked up :hahano:

on a positive note, i received a poo brown tricolor frag from a buddy and within the last 2-3 weeks it has lightening up considerably and showing some purple to it

If you are picking up wild brown colonies be very careful.. The wild brown colonies are the only corals I have lost. Bob and Todd March both had similiar experiences with wild browns aswell.. Take it slow.. Now for the ac brown corals they seem to do very well and start regaining good colors in 2-3 weeks for me...
