  • Zeovit/ICH/Ozone

Hi Guys, need your valuable advice. My Achilles Tang is now ridden with ICH and I am very worried that it cannot fight it out. I have a 50mg/hr Ozoen generator and am thinking of firing it up to help with the battle. Will be injection the ozone into my Deltec AP902 skimmer if I decide to go ahead with it. Removing the fish is not an option cos that will mean tearing down the tank to catch it.

I know that Ozone is a no-no when it comes to zeovit. Anyone have any ideas on what exactly will happen if I inject? Thanks!

Farish, from what I can gather the ozone will kill the Zeo bacteria. If it is used for a short period of time, I would think that it may be okay, except an increase of nutrients. From another point of view thier was some bruhaha on RC about how ozone would bind to some chemical in one of the ingreidients in one of the Zeo components and would turn into a toxic compound. We need Bob and Alexander to chime in on this one just to be sure

Farish, using ozone with the system is not recommended. Ozone will kill the floating bacteria. If you do not have another chance, you could use ozone without any toxic effect to the zeo components, but I also would recommend you not to use it over weeks. One week IMO should cause no problems but I generally do not recommend it.

Try to soak the food with vitamins and / or garlic as a support. I also would recommend you to change the carbon as a supporting action.

Hope you have luck with this beautiful fish, it is a very delicate guy.

Farish, I agree with Alexander, but if your A.tang is still eating, I'd recommend increasing fish-feedings to 2x's/day for a time, with the food soaked as described by Alexander. This may allow the fish's immune system to overcome the ecto-parasite. Compromising the zeo-biological equilibrium with 03 would not be w/o general total system risks. Farish, if this increased feedings are not successful, one reefer's antedotal experience with using ginger[2TSP/100g] daily X 5 doses could be tried safely with ZEOvit. Bob

Thanks Guys, will hold out on the Ozone injection for the next few days and see how the guy copes. I have increased feeding of Nori bits soaked in garlic to about 3-4x a day for the last 2 weeks. We will see how it goes. Thanks once again

If it's eating I'd try to trap it and treat it in a separate vessel.
