LETS GET PERSONAL!
Occupation?
IT Manager
Family/Single?
Married, with three wonderful daughters
Other Hobbies?
Not at the moment
Are you a happy ZEOvit user?
Yes, very happy, although there are some problems with availability of some Zeovit/KZ products where I live.
What/Who got you into the reef hobby?
I was on vacation with my family and I was able to taste a little of the marine world and then I realized that a saltwater tank is what I really want.
Last coral or fish acquired?
Acropora Granulosa
Is energy saving a concern for you when purchasing equipment?
Yes, but high quality of equipment has the priority
Who do you call for help when you have problems with your aquarium?
Nobody at the moment, but few years ago I used to consult some issues with my friend Krzysztof Tryc. Nowadays I’d rather have a regular chat with my fellow reef friends like Robert K mostly to exchange observations and experiences with the products etc.
Have you ever dived or snorkeled and seen an open reef?
Yes, during holidays.
Which is your all time favorite aquarium(s)?
Krzysztof Tryc’s, Andrew’s (V1-rotate)’s, Mr. Kangs
Why did you choose to run ZeoVit?
I’ve tried probably all the methods with great results, but I like to be forced to keep in touch with my tank to be able to control what’s going inside it and Zeovit forces me do it better than any other method.
Have you used any other filtration methods before ZeoVit?
Yes: Berlin style, Biopellets (small , big, all in one, etc), Aquaforest
What is the biggest asset of ZeoVit system in your opinion?
It encourages you to keep a close eye on your tank. Because you can potentially tweak so many things with different products - you’re expecting some results/changes and it makes you observe your tank even closer and this in the end makes you a better reefer because you are more in tune with your reef.
How do you manage to run the system while you are away from home (on holidays etc)?
The aquarium has a redundant power supply (UPS + power generator) in case of major electricity problems, all the critical parameters can be checked online and/or I can be notified by and email/sms (Profilux), webcam etc. and there is also always someone nearby to take care of the house (water the plants/garden, take care of my dog & cat , shake the zeolites, feed the fishes etc.)
What was your biggest problem you had experienced with current aquarium and how did you solve it?
About two years ago my reef started to die slowly, tips or corals were burned, there was no growth at all, even a simple SPS like montipora were dying. It took me a whole year with losing almost all my corals and a restart with still no progress to finally find that I’ve put an electric valve on a pipe I’m using to fill evaporated water but from time to time during a water change also the salt water was passing through that pipe poisoning my reef probably with some heavy metals.(ICP tests didn’t find any problems) in the water. After removing that valve, the situation came back to normal in a few days and I’ve started again from scratch with just a few small frags.
What would you advice to fellow reefers who are just starting with ZeoVit.
- Be patient, success comes with time (months or years rather than days or weeks)
- strong biology in the tank is most of the time underestimated, good water chemistry is important but freshly made saltwater strait from the bucket has a good chemistry but corals will still die so don’t get yourself fixed on test results too much
- you don’t need all the products that others are using at once, use them to fix problems or to tune your tank but not because it’s new or popular
- Nobody should or could tell you what to do in your tank because nobody knows your tank better – watch, learn, observe, make research but make your own decisions
What salt mix do you use?
Mostly Fauna Marin Professional Sea Salt, but I’ve used different brands over years with great results
Do you use any other coral food beside KZ products?
Not at the moment
Do you dose any other supplements beside ZeoVit additives?
Not at the moment
Can you best describe the effect zeovit products have on your corals e.g. do you notice improved blue colours dosing pif better pinks with k+?
Firstly, you can keep a lot of fishes and still be able to have good coral coloration and growth. Secondly in my private experience this is the only system that allows me to keep some of my corals really pink and yellow.
Bulbs configuration, why did you choose this set of bulbs?
It makes my tank really bright in a warm way that is natural and preferred to me. I don’t like blueish dark reefs you can see nowadays with led blue lights.
SPECIAL THANKS
Special thanks to the whole Zeovit community, all the Mods and Admins.
There is also a special thanks to my wife and family for supporting me in my hobby.
