  • Just purchased ASM G2 skimmer, I have a question

:smash: I purchased an 8 month old ASM skimmer from DH Freak on zeovit.com. I will be recieving it next week. It will be replacing my seaclone (it is a 40 gallon tank, I know the ASM is a little overkill but I have heard you can never skim to much plus one day I will be buying a bigger tank).

I know the ASM skimmers are almost exactly like the Euroreefs, and in order to change dry vs. wet skimming you move the tube up and down. My question is in order to do wet skimming with the ASM where should I have the adjuster tube, up high or down low? And how low or high, all the way, halfway etc. give me a rough estimate of where the best tube height is.

    Thank You

The skimmer tube is higher when running the skimmer wet. You are going to love this thing, wait til you see how much bigger it is than the seaclone. You are going to have to fiddle around with it to have it set the way that you want it, but I have mine set so the bubbles are about halfway up the cup.

I have read the water level in the sump is best for the ASM's when it is around 6-8 inchs. Does this sound about right?

brad, do the gate valve mod... it is 100x easier to adjust the water level in the skimmer neck.

you can see mine on my ER skimmer

Yep, the gate valve mod is nest on my list. Brad, 6-8 in is sufficient to run the skimmer

I would think that 6 - 8" is just about right. ER's recommendation is the same, I view the ASM skimmer as a clone or vice a versa. (the chicken and the egg thing.). My ER CS12 runs best at 7". I have tried 6, 7, and 8 and prefer 7".
