I am looking to get a new BK skimmer for my tank. It is 120 gal with a 50 gal sump and 20 gal prop tank. I have not found my current skimmer to be very steady in performance. Are the BK consistent once they are dialed in? I would like to know is it better to plumb it internal or external? I currently have a pump that is external of the sump feeding the mrc1 skimmer inside the sump. The bulkhead is drilled at the bottom edge the sump. How do you have to plumb the external BK? Is there a chance for floods if mounted externally? Also what size BK would be recommended for my system? Is there any comparison with the BK and ASM skimmers. ( I know the big price difference)?
    Thanks

I think that my BK is pretty consistent and frankly IMO not all that hard to dial in.

As for leak potential....it's always there. However it's not all that much of a risk really. Then number one is that when the pump gets shut off if the feed continues, the airline will flood and leak. Not bad, but will leak.

BK and ASM...no....not even vaguely related.

i just got my BK250 INT and LOVE it. I had a ASM G6 on my tank before I bought the BK and it worked awesome but nothing like the BK

Can the water source for the external model be utilized from the overflow or do you need a additional pump?

You can feed your EXT from the overflow... That is how moonpod has his setup and once my 600gal is up and running, that is how I will be running as well...

yeah I have a drain manifold feeding my skimmer and my fluidized reactors and UV. it seems to work just fine. For sure the BK produces PLENTY of nasty 'ol skimmate this way.

I dont think I have enough flow. Im looking at about 400 gph from the drain on the side it would be hooked to, is this enough?
