  • BK300 External Question

Does anybody here run BK 300 external skimmer using only one of the drain tubes?

I don't have enough plumbing fittings to connect both drain tubes so I raised one of them about 1 inch higher than the other. I am flowing about 300~gallons thru the skimmer right now and I think the single 1.5"(or the metric equivalent) drain should handle that okay. Anyone tried this before and can share some experience?

    TIA.

Pierce, I've got a 400ext, I can run it with only one drain pipe and the other one closed off essentially.
    10x3x2 FOWLR (for now)
    BK400ext
RD12 return, 2 RD12 closed loop, wavebox with extension
    MRC kalkmixer
    IKS

Thanks Chuck. Did you notice any effect on the skimmer with only one pipe in use?

no, but actually it's not all that easy to block off the other pipe. The wedges closed all the way and the pipe still lets water through. You need to block the outlet with something else.

Someone showed me this picture and I was not sure if I am getting max efficiency with just one drain open.

I plan to make a blanking plate and replace the unused telescoping tube with it.

Pierce, One pipe should handle it, as far as I know. In that picture, the problem there is that both pipes are being used but they are at different heights. If you use two pipes, then both pipes need to be set the exact same way.
