  • Deltec APF600 or HS A150-2001

I have a hangon mce600 deltec on my 55 gallon with a 20 gallon sump with all messy eater fairy wrasses. The hang on is doing awesome, I love it but I always wanted to try one of those recirculation skimmers. I really want to overskim as much as I can, would you recommend the deltec model or the H&S? Is it difficult to plumb? And adjusting the air on the H&S is it different than adjusting the air on the deltec with the clamp compared to the deltec air valve? Sorry for all the question but I am really going to overstock my 55 gallon and I want the best bang for the buck.

    Scott, welcome to ZeoVit.com

As I do not have any experience with the Deltec skimmers, I ran a H & S. Generally I would recommend to use a Eheim pump based H & S model. The pumps have much more power then the AquaBee pumps.

The air intake of the H & S skimmers is adjusted with a clamp to limit the diameter of the silicon hose for the air intake.

      Hi Scott
The only high end skimmer I have used is the Deltec AP851 (you have seen a pic of it on RC) Realistically I don’t think you would go wrong with either the Deltec or H&S both are very good skimmers. As for pluming you can make as simple or as complex as you like. I like simple so I use a feed pump (Ehiem 1250) to run my skimmer. If you want to do some extra pluming you can feed the skimmer from one of your overflows which would be better but more complex. HTH

      120 BB w/20g BB side tank, 29g sump, (2) 250w RO III, 14k AC, Bluewave VII ballast, Deltec 851, Panworld 150 return, (2) 6000 Streams w/controller, AC II Controller w/(2) DC4, GEO 618 CR.

If at first it doesn't fit get a bigger hammer - Beat to fit paint to match

Actually, I believe the Aquabee 2001 in the US performs similar to the Eheim 1260 in Europe. They both should be about 650LPH from what I've read (and measured). I have used the H&S and it's great. My friend locally has the APF600 and its great as well. Flip a coin. I do think the H&S is $650 and the Deltec is over $800, though.

Oh and the Zeovit.com dream tank of the quarter uses the H&S you're referring to.

Thanks for the welcome I really like the look of this site. Lots of good info. Its such a tough decision with quality skimmers from H&S and Deltec. I really do love my deltec hangon but I am going to be upgrading to a 120 gallon maybe next year and I just want a skimmer that can handle a heavy bio load and overskim. I think I am either going to go with either a AP701 or a H&S A200-1260. Going to have save some funds though. might be a couple of months :/
            Thanks for the info.

Colin that AP851 looks awesome!! I plan on plumbing it outside the tank so the AP851 would be on my list Does the extra height of the ap851 skimmer compared to the ap701 produce better dwell time? I am just wondering why the AP851 is rated 270 gallon heavy and the ap701 is only 250 gallon heavy. By the way is H&S skimmers ratings in the heavy bioload or the medium bioload? Sorry for all the question but I want to purchase a skimmer that I don't want to replace

One other thing to note - you can contact finsreef and get one custom made H&S for much less than you'd think. On my new tank I'm either putting a BK Internal or a "cut down" A200 with either 2x2001 or 1x1260. I have less than 30" clearance in the new stand.

Sorry for talking so long to reply. I would think that the taller and the bigger around a skimmer is the more contact time you have. As for the ratings

You may want to talk to someone that sells H&S skimmers and see how they rate there skimmers.
