  • Received my BK, but.....

Well, been waiting since September for my BK 300 internal and today it finally arrived. The box had a couple dents in it but nothing major. I start unpacking, first the return tubes, these things are cool looking and bigger than I thought. Roughly look like 2" pvc. Then the collection cup, high quality piece and very well crafted. The for the grand finale, the body and pump. So I start unwrapping the body and bam there it is... The body is broken completely off the base, all the way around. I feel sick and pissed off at the same time. So, I pick up the phone and Captive Oceans is closed for the holidays. I have an e-mail to Scott so we will see. Here is a couple pics so everyone can feel my pain.

IMO the reason the body had been broken away is not so much UPS fault. As stated the box wasn't really that beat up. The pump was preassembled to the body and attached to the base with a single piece of tape. The room in the box and the ability of the pump to get a little inertia going is (again JMO) the reason the skimmer was broken. Not blaming anyone, just unfortunate circumstances. Here is another pic or two

    So close, yet so far.

                Unfortunate Happenings,

But the guys at Captive Oceans will take care of you. I waited like 6 months for my reef cermaics and then was missing a few pieces. Got a hold of Scott and the UPS man dropped it off a few days latter.

For what ti is worth even broken that is a rocking SKimmer :chinese:

not to worry my friend, claim has been started. A new one will be shipped out to you Tuesday once I am back from Vacation. I would do it tomorrow but I am in Atlanta. UPS has the paper work, and things are rocking and rolling so no worries you will have another one in a week .

We ship them to you, the same way they are shipped from Germany. We have not had one break on us yet on the way to us. So we take them to the local UPS store, and they pack them, the bubble wrap is from Klaus so if he thinks thats good enough, we do too .

I will let you know how it goes, they will come pick it up, etc. So just make sure you keep it all in tact. Obviously you are allowed to take it out, etc. or how would you know it broke .

Hang tight, we have another in stock and it has your name on it.

                      Scott:

I ordered a 250 external from the guys at fins reef and they said they get them drop shipped from you. Do you know if you have any 250 ext or even a 300 ext in stock? Thanks in advance!

BTW: Marshal sorry to jack your thread!

So far I have to compliment both Scott and Madison. They got right on this and I am pleased at the responses. Excellent customer service thus far.

Scott, as far as packing the skimmer goes. Am I to assume that you receive them from Klaus on a pallet with other boxes? If so, they are subject to MUCH less shock and individual mal-treatment. Frankly I am a bit surprised by the amount of free space left in the box. I think in the future I would do a few things differently just to assure the safe arrival of the skimmer. I'm no shipping expert, but it is pretty easy to see what happened here.

#1 Take the pump off the skimmer body and wrap it seperately or securely fasten it to the base plate.
#2 Fill all voids with peanuts, newspaper etc.

Let me reiterate, I am thus far pleased with the customer service afforded me by Scott and Madison. Very quick responses and more than willing to make things right.

                              Marshal,

I feel your pain, I really wish I had seen this sooner, been crazy busy for the past few months and have neglected my reefing. The reason I replied to this is that I too had the same problem when mine arrived, but, to be honest with you, it is a blessing in disguise, I never wanted mine replced, it makes it so much easier to clean when you can remove the skimmer body from the base, in fact, I would suggest you seriously think about keeping the one you have........
