  • A difficult decision, please help!

Well due to time constraints I am downsizing my tank. I will end up with either a 130 or 150 - but most likely the 130. I will also have a tank at my new business, but will not need a huge protein skimmer. I honestly don't know when I'll have a larger tank, its doubtful it will be in 2006.

So that leaves me with a very difficult decision ... what do I do with my Bubble King. The 300 Ext model is absolutely incredible, I don't have to tell anybody here that. This, and the H&S A200 2x1260 are the absolute best skimmers I have ever seen or used.

I "could" skim my smaller tank with this incredible skimmer but I think that might just be rididulous. Or would it? And I certainly don't want a practically brand new $2,400 piece of machinery sitting in my fish closet.

If I got rid of it, I'd probably have a smaller custom H&S made, and I'm REALLY interested to see the newer BK models at Interzoo. I won't be buying a new tank anytime soon but that doesn't mean I won't buy new equipment all year long.

    Please help!

    I'd just use the BK300

Well you could sell it to me for really cheap for my new tank that I am aquiring equipment for (300g cube). If you decide not do do that then I would just go ahead and use it on your 130. I have a 400ext. on my 190 and maybe overkill but I am pleased with it.

You already have it so I would use it. IF it proves to much you can always sell it at a later date. HTH

I'm just wondering if there is a point where a skimmer becomes TOO big. As in, will there even be enough organics in the water to skim? It will be jammed full of SPS I'm sure, and I want a LOT of smaller fish, and it's skimming my 150 very well.

          It just seems overkill.

Haha Ruth, if $500 off new would be really cheap - maybe we could talk, but otherwise it would actually COST me money to get a smaller skimmer. ;-)

you could always restrict water and airflow on the bk300 to make it run slower if you ever needed to, or just get more fish and feed more

i would keep the 300, if there is nothing to skim, well then the BK will just put air in your tank untill there is something to skim out, it will keep your PH stable

keep it - I bet if you sold it, you would eventually end up regret it.

Besides sooner or later you know that you will want a bigger tank.

I agree with the others, hang onto it. I will bet money that it won't be too long before you get another larger tank. Once you do, you will surely regret if you sold the BK.
