  • BK 400ext observations

OK the thing has been running for about 2-3 weeks now. I've the following observations:

    1) Very, very, very, very quiet. How do you know if the skimmer is on? You see bubbles.....
    2) no problems tuning it at all. You want wet? Dial it closed. You want it dry, open it up....
    3) It's friggin' GINORMOUS
    4) Interesting finding--it's hard to start up the pump if water is flowing through it. I need to turn off the flow through the skimmer to start the pump up reliably. It stalls otherwise.
    5) my skimmate stinks. Horribly. Wasn't bad until I started injecting ozone. Now with ozone...I had to stick carbon pads (like from an air filter) over the top of the thing.

I have start-up issues as well. I don't understand what you are doing though. Mine is internal and must be shut off for WC.

yeah it's not applicable to your situation Steve. Basically, I have a line off of my drain manifold that "feeds" the skimmer. It goes into a "T" on the intake end of the skimmer pump. If I open that up and the pump is off, it's very hard to get the pump to go on. If I close it off, turn the pump on and then let the water in, no problems
