BK Internal vs.External

I am considering purchasing a BK 300 skimmer.

Is there any advantage/disadvantage to the internal vs. the external?

Also, are the BK skimmers considered recirculating skimmers?

The main reason I would go with the BK internal is that it is the most powerful skimmer that will fit in my tank stand. The external will need to be put outside my stand on the side of the tank stand.

My understanding is that they both perform equally. IMHO the disadvantage to the external is that it requires an additional pump. The internal is not a RC skimmer but the external is.
