  • Feeding an External Bubble King

I got a question. I was wondering if I could feed my External Bubble King 250 directly from an overflow pipe?

I have two 1.5" pipes coming out of my overflow and I was thinking about connecting one directly to BK with a ball valve to control the flow. (I need to try to save on my energy bill after buying this BK

    Would this work?

    TIA!

I don't see why that couldn't be done

Madison and Heinz are the BK pros. I also dont see a problem with it. Give it a shot and let us know how it worked out.

I think once you got your flow rate dialed in, it should work great............
IF IT IS WORTH DOING, TAKE YOUR TIME AND DO IT RIGHT..........

Yep as they said, it will work perfect, I was going to but the return is WAY too much for the 300 ext. You will love you BK, I know its the best money I have spent so far!

Feeding by overflow is no problem, I would tee off main to bleed off the excess if needed.

Wow. Thanks for all the replies and thanks Heinz for the pic.

Unfortunately, I can't test it out for a few mores days. I'm still waiting for my tank and sump to be finished being made - I'm just planning my layout right now.

I'll post pics when I get everything together.

Hey Heinz - are there other photos of this set-up? I imagine the guy only has a portion of his total overflow water going to the skimmer, where I'd like to run 100% to the skimmer. But I think it would be wise to have a safety "T" somewhere between the overflow and the skimmer. Wondering if this guy's sophisticated plumbing shows this?

                    Thanks,

                    David

David, you have a bk 300, right? Ideally you want about 500gph, up to 700ish. Not sure how much is going through your overflow but those are the numbers to shoot for for the skimmer.

On this note madison what's the target flow for a 400 external? I'm gonna have two drains with a rd 12 return. One of the drains I would like to use to drive the skimmer fluidized reactor and possibly a ca reactor

Thanks Madison, I'll probably only feed 600GPH from my sump. The tank will have lots of flow otherwise.

Chuck - the pump on my 300 actually tells the flowrate of 300-600, does yours?

I would be worried about feeding something that will create backpressure. I think the resistance through a FR will beat the pressure your skimmer pushes and you'll have overflow issues. I could be wrong, just my guess.
