  • Protein skimmer survey

I want to get an overview of what zeoheads are using for skimmers.

Please post the approximate net volume of your system, the make and model of your skimmer, and the manufacturer's tank size rating (if you know it off hand).

    Thanks.

    Tom
Current Tank: 75g sps restarted with ZEOvit August 2004, Aqua Connect 14K 250W SE MH x 2, SLS HQI ballasts, 54W blueplus T5s x 2, H&S A150 external (recirculating) skimmer, Tunze Stream 6060, 6000 with single controller, Geo Ca reactor, in-sump ZEOvit reactor from Madison, Aquacontroller

System Net water volume estimated at 500 gallons, gross 750.

Simmer in use - Deltec AP1003
I think it's rated somewhere in the 900-1200 gallon range depending on stocking levels.

I love the skimmer. I had an MR4 or 5 (can't remember which) and the Deltec knocks the socks off that dual beckett with regard to skimmate quantity/quality and ease of set-up and cleaning.

      Net gallonage:450g
Skimmer: Deltec-AP1004--exactly a similar experience as Mike, switched from a multi-beckett, MRC to the Deltec. It's everything I had hopedBob

Net 320 gallons, Skimmer BubbleKing 300 external with a AquaBee 2000/1 feeder pump.

Recommended for a 1580 gal system.

        Switched from H & S A200 – 2 x 1060 (580 gal) with the same feeder pump.

Not a zeohead exactly. Current tank is a 180g with maybe 20+ in the sump.

Deltec 702. Rated for 500 or so. Selfcleaning head is on the way. I am going to try this unit on my new system (600g or so). If it doesn't cut the mustard I may go BK 400 ext.

140g Total Volume using a Euro Reef CS6-2. Works just fine and never had any problems.

70g net volume using Euro Reef CS6-2 rated for 110g, works fine just tends to overflow if I run it wet.

50g net volume using H&S A110-F2000 rated for 100g, works great.

Not a Zeohead yet but! About 150 gross Deltec 851. I think it’s rated from 270-400.

I use an ASM-2 for my 40 gallon tank. I believe it is rated at 125 gallons. It's a pretty darn good skimmer for the price. I would definetly buy it again.

                      Edward, Dustin,

                      Are your ERs recirculating?

Yes. Just so you know.. I also clean my skimmer body with vinegar on a quaterly basis or whenever it looks dirty on the inside. Having a rough texture on the inside where the bubbles recirculate will loose its performance. The smoother the body, the easier the bubbles make it to the top. just thought I would throw that in since its part of my husbandry techniques

ER CS12-2 in-sump with a 3rd pump added for recirc.
Rated for 400 gallons, not sure if the 3rd pump added any capacity, but definitely improved performance. I also clean inside of skimmer body, not as often as I should, but at least every couple months. One of these days I'm gonna get my arm stuck in that sucker and have to cut it off. (not my arm) Then I will have to by a deltec I guess. Just can't justify it at this point.

Mine is not a recirc. design. Although I plan to add a second pump soon.
