Typical Reactor vs. AquaCare Reactor

Does anyone know what the difference between these two besides their setup is?

I know a typical reactor has 1 or 2 chambers, but these AquaCare have quite a few. Is there an advantage to this and does anyone know how it really works?

I'd be interested in building one of those DIY if I knew how the system really operated.
