  • Deltec pf500 calcium reactor/mag?

Hey guys i have a deltec pf500 calcium reactor and would like to know if anyone out there uses ZEOmag Magnesium Granulate (from Korallen-zucht) i was thinking of using this and was wondering if the size of granulates would work ok in the deltec calcium reactor?

the size of the deltec media is small IMO but i cant find exactly how small?

and i am getting sick of adding Seachems Mag supplement EVERYDAY and my MAG is still ONLY 1170! i need to get it up to atleast 1250! so i think this may work?

    anyone have any thoughts?

    thanks!

Mg granulate is meant only to help you maintain the Mg levels and not increase it. You should try to boost the Mg levels to where you want them and then put in enuff Mg granulate until the levels are steady on a daily basis.

I used Tropic Marine MG supplement to boost the levels to about 1250 and its rock steady at that level with about 10-15% of the media in my PF1000 consisting of the Mg granulates. I'm using ARM as the media so its not fluidizing in my case. Will replace the media with Rowalith c++ once the current ARM is fully dissolved/depleted.

It should work as the MG granulates aint that heavy. You will still have the fluidizing effect for your CR media. Go for it!

do you feel your calcium recator can keep up with the demands of your SPS?

              thanks!

The PF1000 is way way overrated for my reef. I think its rated for 800G or so. Currently, the CR's capability is not being tested at all, running the chamber Ph at 6.7 in the day and 6.8 at night to help with Ph stability with rock steady KH/CA/MG values. Effluent is almost a constant stream..

yeah i thought it was a bit much for a 250 gallon tank, i have a 180 total water volume of about 245ish so i hope the pf500 can keep up when i start to get serious about stocking, right now i have about 5 SPS and wont add anymore for about another 2 weeks.

good to hear you like it though!

                    thanks for the help!

About 4 months I think. Corals have darken a bit from that pic due to the overzealous feeding of high nutrient foods in an attempt to convince my new Achilles Tang to start feeding!
