  • Is there a reactor that a pump does the plunging?

I remember there was a thread about this on RC

    http://reefcentral.com/forums/showth...hlight=reactor

what i was thinking was having the grotech reactor, but putting some acylic tube down in making the basket. And having one 1250 running it as i will have 2.5 imp gals.

and having it where the pump is connected now, have a t peiece and either side of this have a non return valve and then a 1250, which pushes 1200l/h.

What i was thinking of doing was having a timer come on for 3 hrs on/off in sequence for one of them, and then have the other one to come on for say 3 mins twice a day, when the first reactor is on.

Just thinking about it, as at the moment i have a large pump on my diy reactor, and it is tapped back, but today i thought i would experiment to see what would happen, and to me it looked just like the plunging, alot of stuff came off, then i turned the tap back.

Or perhaps thats the toher way to do it is have a tap and then just turn this twice a day?

But do you think this high flow would cause problems, even though it would only be for 6-10 mins a day. As we keep hearing not to put too much flow through the reactor.

Andrew, that would not be an issue & is a good way to automate the stone cleaning. I believe in Germany there are zeousers who use this technique Bob

which technique do you think would be better, the two pumps or the tap?

obviously i would prefer the two pumps, as means i have to do less

Andrew, if I automated this procedure I agree the second pump flowing for a few min 2x's/day with concurrent flow an effective methodBob

Let us know if you get the two pump going. I want to see how well it works.

Cool ill continue using the tap over the next month or so and see the difference compared to using the plunger.

If that goes well ill instill the two pump deseign in the new tank
