  • Tunze wave box

Can anyone that has one give me some info on it please. I am thinking of dropping one of my 6100's and adding a wavebox for a total of 3 6100's and the wavebox on my 240. I have about 1" clearence from the top of the tank before the water spills out.. I have a 240 euro braced starfire tank also. I was told I would be fine and the water level was good enough and I should have no problems.. Also I think I would get the extension not the wavebox with controller since I already have a controller. Any info would be great.. I would talk to Roger on the other board but for me thats not an option.

    Thanks in advance, Jeff

Does the multicontroller drive the wavebox independently? I thought the multicontroller could "sync" the wavebox for night flow, etc..., but that you still needed a wavebox and wavebox controller.

1" of clearance is fine. You can decrease the amplitude of the wave by "sinking" the wavebox if it is too big--albeit with a eurobrace you'll only have an inch of wavebox exposed barely so that you might not get the full amplitude anyways.

Don't worry about how much clearance you have from the top. Just worry about how much room do you have in your tank for the wavebox. I own a wave box and my water level is just .5" from the top and it is doing fine. Most of my friend have the wavebox and none of them ever complain about water spilling out the tank. Unless you have four wavebox in your tank line up, now you have tsunami . Since you are going to spend $400+ on the Wavysea why don't you invest them money on the wavebox it going to be much better. Just my opinion.

Yea Steve I think I might be leanign that way now.. Chuck, so you suggest I get the controller setup for $500 then.. What kinda flow am I looking at with a wavebax and 3 6100's? Here is where I read about not getting the controller also, Do you think I should?

The multicontroller can only stop it at night time it cannot be used for a wavebox controller.
They are nice but take alot of room, I dont care for the space it takes up.
You have a big black box hanging on the side of your tank.
Dont get me wrong they are nice, But there are some drawbacks.
If you do go that route sell me your 6100. :chinese:
Sorry i havent got thos pics to you, my camera needs a new card. Long story.

I don't know how you "calculate" the flow. I basically look at it as...plenty.

As for the controller....You're gonna want it for the streams regardless. Now personally, the old style multicontroller was fine, but the new one has plenty 'o gizmo to it.

You will need to get the wavebox w/ controller. The Extension will not work off of the 7095.
It will alow the detritus to be suspended better for the flow of the streams to push it into your filtration.
It comes with the nighttime Photo Cell.

There biggest Drawback is there size, but I personally do not find that as a problem.

Wavebox is way to you. With that 8foot tank you should have plenty of room.

I have heard that the wave boxes are so strong that they can blow the sides off of tanks because of the rocking motion they create.
I heard this from a very bad source and was wondering if it was at all true.

It isn't that strong, BUT it's a repetitive stress that CAN fatigue silicone seals over time. Tunze has some "caveats" about using the wavebox on older glass tanks.

The wavebox is one of the best things i've added to my tank. The flow is really amazing and it's very entertaining to see the fish move up and down I'm getting a wave close to 2" so I'm really happy with it.

Tunze says the wavebox reduces the tank lifetime in 10%-15%.
