Who ever uses the Mag Drive Pumps and either likes them or don't like them?

I am running a Mag 9 pump internally for my return and this darn thing is LOUD. I have tried to muffle the sound a bit by adding some prefilter under the pump, but that did not work very well.

What are your opinions and methods for silencing these pumps?

    Thanks

I have used them in the past. The biggest concern with them is the lesser quality stainless screws they use to hold the housing together. If you run them internally, I would look into replacing them with nylon. There is a thread floating around here or RC that gives sizes etc.

Some are loud. Some are not. They are inefficient, and will heat up the water. They have some poor manufacturing standards also. They use a cheap plastic on the inpellor housing that is suseptable to breaking. I had a loud one that I replaced the impellor on. It was still loud; so I replaced the impellor cover. It was still loud, so now it mixes & heats saltwater.
