  • Typical sump layout for Zeovit

    Hi Everybody,

Can somebody please post a diagram or photo of the best way to layout your sump with regard to where the skimmer goes, where the zeo reactor goes etc.

At the moment, my skimmer is in my 'skimmer sump' fed from the overflow. From here it flows into my main sump housing my 'fuge. When I go zeo, I will be removing the 'fuge.

Does the skimmer go before the zeo reactor or after? Which is the best way?

    Thanks in advance

Curveball, Sounds like you will do fine. You want your skimmer first in line, then the zeo reactor. Seperate compartments like you have will only make things better. You will still want to turn off you skimmer when dosing bac/food7 for a hour or so. Don't know if this is absolutely necessary all the time but I'm sure it is very beneficial as this is what Bob (AgedSalt) recommends . Besides that who would ever doubt the good Dr. .

I thought ZEO reactor first, then skimmer? Joerg Kokott recommends that in the last issue of "Koralle".

Maybe I'm wrong but I was always under the impression that the mulm being released from the stones when they are stirred was benificial as a food source to corals. If a skimmer is used behind the zeo filter a certain % of this food would be taken out of system w/ skimmate. Maybe someone else can chime in w/ some comments.

Nope, I think its skimmer first then zeo-reactor. That way the mulm that gets loose after u shake the media can find its way into the main tank first before hitting the skimmer.

Thanks for the replies. So it seems as if it doesn't really matter which component goes first in the line?

Anybody else got comments? Which way are your systems set up?

IMHO it does matter. 1st ZEO, then skimmer - i've changed that too and my skimmer produces more than ever now

Curveball, I would place the zeo filter water outlet to the last camber of the filter sump where no further filtration takes place. This will bring all the bacterial duff, by mixing the zeo daily, directly in the tank where the corals can absorb it. This duff is a good nourishment for corals and I have observed also good for health and coloration.

Hi all, along with the good remarks above, when I'm dosing bak/food7, I have the skimmer off for 60min, and it's during this time that I pump the zeo-filter, allowing the duff to move thruout the system Bob

so which goes first ? I would tend to lean towards the zeo after the skimmer

As Alexander stated, skimmer before zeo-filter is ideal & it does seem to help in coral growth & color more as opposed to zeo-filter before skimmer, which I had originally in my initial setup Bob

I would have my future Zeovit reactor next to my return pump. Would that be considered having the reactor before the skimmer?

Vinny, ideally, the skimmer's placement is before the zeo-filter which is before the return pump Bob
