  • Flow Ideas/Suggestions for 220 - Pic Included!

    Hi All,

Well we are finally getting ready to set up the 220 gallon tank we got a little while ago. Have everything finalized except the water flow/movement in the tank. The tank is 72"x24"x30". We are going to be running ZEO, a BK 300 Internal in the custom sump below the tank (48"x18"x16") - 30 gallons or so of water). This sump is goign to have two 1" bulkheads for the use of return pumps (externals). We currently have and are going to use 1 Tunze wavebox and 2 Tunze 6100 Streams oriented as you can see in the picture, worked very well on the test fill.

We are very hesitant this will not create enough flow in the tank which will be SPS dominated. We now are looking for suggestions for increased water movement/flow to make sure we will be fine for SPS. Ideas/thoughts include running 2 external pumps...sequence/iwaki etc or getting 2 more 6100 streams and running a smaller Ehiem (1262) for the return. Our overflow is drilled with two 1.5" bulkheads.

What are your ideas/suggestions? Should we use and Ocean Motion, Sea Swirl, eductor or SCWD devices to further randomize the flow? The wavbox is giving us a wave of about 1.75" back and fourth. The tank is currently not drilled for any close loops/returns but this MIGHT be an option....

Lets hear your thoughts, want to get this system set up and get it gorgeous

Homey you have plenty of flow with the tunze(s) if anything get 2 more 6100's and call it a day. Forget the OM, SS, Eductor, SCWD for sure, and run the tunze stuff. You will have plenty of flow in there.

great pics, hehe sometimes its better to draw it then use a computer and try hehe.. Nice work .. And nice equipment!

I personally would go with 2 more Tunze 6100's, and the Eheim return pump. If you put the flow in the tank, you do not need a high flow sump. It will allow you skimmer to skim better, and be way more energy efficient. I am assuming you are running the streams on a 7095 multicontroller. If not, then that is a must.

        Hi,

Thanks for the replies. Do you think we have enough flow in the tank right now and add the 2 additional Tunze 6100s once the tank begins to mature?

We currently are running the 7094 multicontroller....should we consider upgrading to the 7095?

Also thinking about running 2 return pumps for redundancy...also so we can remove one for cleaning and not stop the sump from running....good idea or bad?

Do you think 4 6100 Tunze's will interfer with the Tunze Wave box?

        Appreciate the input guys!

        Thanks!
