  • How to clean a Red Dragon?

Can I get a lesson on cleaning the RD pump on my Bubble King.

It seems removing the face plate will only allow you to see the needle wheel and not allow you to get to the inner chamber.

Please help so I don't screw something up here.

I'm not sure you would want to clean more than that area. Just do it like you would other pumps and remove the impellar (needlewheel) and clean that chamber. You could also check and see if the calcium bypass line is clogged and perhaps run some vinegar through it.

Hi Steve, hopefully Klaus will comment, but Deltec recommends using muriatic acid [about 2 TSP's in warm water]. I filled a 200g salt-bucket with warm water plus the muriatic acid & dropped my pumps in with just running them for about 20-30min. It removes all coralline algae, detritus & dirt from the pins. I could tell a difference in foam formation. Bob

Thanks Bob... I've always used acid at full strength and just soaked the impellers and poured some in the chamber for a while...(not very long because it works quick ). But that has always been with relatively inexpensive pumps (less than $200) like GRI, Mag drives, etc.

I hear ya' Maybe PM Klaus for the company's recommendation. Madison's suggestion is probably more safe yet effective. Bob

            Dear Steve,
i send Gary a completed cleaning-information for translating in US-lenguage. Its to difficult for me give a perfect lenguage claning-information.
I think, when the Needle-wheel pumps is not starting, the first number of the titanium needles is clogged. It is simple to clean the first row. The nozzle must be taken off and with a needle or a pointed article, which titanium needles, to clean.

            best regards... Klaus
