I'd try to get some more silicon tubing? Racing and car tuning shops have the really good stuff, but plumbing and garden stores should have usable hose too?

I really love that overflow! WHat made you do a half cylinder shape?

If you have tyhe space I personally always prefer external. I know the thing is supposed to be very low heat but it HAS to generate some heat. It's virtually impossible to not. That being sid I like to put a bit of flex hose in the system somewhere to cut down on vibration and to make the plumbing easier.
