  • i need some help to desing my overflow box

as u guys know,i am getting a new ACRYLIC TANK...no more glass for me(
i am planning on one oveflow box in the left corner.
i have two sea swirls 3/4" each
if i make 1,5" drain pipe and one 1" return split to two 3/4" s.s.,would this work?
or maybe u have better ideas for me,

    thankx,mike

How much flow? How big a tank? Do you want to place the tank smack against the wall, or do you plan on rear access?

Hi Mike, I'm in the planning stages myself for a new cube-shaped acrylic as Cathy & I are moving into a new home soon. As Chuck mentioned, there are many considerations based on size, desired tank turn-over, behind tank room, etc. I plan to use the entire back panel for my overflow, improving surface skimming & opening-up more intank space. Yeah I like that "infinity overflow" type setup, but with my new tank, I'm putting it flush against a wall, so EVERYTHING has to go up and down via the overflows, so I'm putting return lines, drains and "dry tubes" in the overflow)

            HI CHUCK AND BOB!!

my tank is against the wall,so everything has to go via the overflow box.
what is "dry tubes" i never heard such as expresion)))
bob, thats a great idea to have all back panel for overflow...
my tank is gonna be 4'x2'x28"...is about 140g...

            thankx,mike

Hah, I thought you'd like that Bob.

Mike, "dry tubes" are pipes through the overflow that are "dry". You pass cords and the like through them.

Well you want 2 corner overflows right? A 1.5" drain in both is A LOT of drain capacity. Make the overflows big enough for the 1.5" drain, durso, a return line and a "dry tube". The thing about dry tubes....1" tends to be tight, 1.5" works better, but makes for a large overflow.....

Well, Mike, for my new tank that's all I'm using. One center overflow holding 5 2" holes for a couple of drains, a couple of return lines and a dryline.
