  • Need pump recommendation

What do you recommend for a 400-500g return pump?

  • #2
GRI 510. Quiet, pressure rated, built like a tank. I love the performance of GRIs and the durability, BUT the 518 and 520 have fans that whine. The 510 is fanless.
    10x3x2 FOWLR (for now)
    BK400ext
RD12 return, 2 RD12 closed loop, wavebox with extension
    MRC kalkmixer
    IKS

If you want a lower pressure pump look at the Eheim 1260, and 1262 models. Super Quite, easy to replace impeller if need be, and they run forever.

Oh yeah. The only thing I don't like about Eheim's is that when you run 'em externally the fittings on the pump are metric and they don't exactly fit as nicely as I would like onto inch style plumbing. Granted you can get the eheim metric tubing. I am using an eheim 1262 on my office tank. It is definitely super quiet.

          Thanks guys..

What do you guys think about the Sequence Hammerhead? Its rated at 5000gph. I have heard nothing but good things about them.

does it need to be quiet?

are you setting up a 500g?

                  Noise level is no concern.

                  maybe.

FWIW I'm either gonna use a RD12000 or a SEQ12 on my new tank.

The only thing I worry about the hammerhead is the 2" plumbing.

MDM is supposed to come out with a pump that has 1.5" plumbing

JSOT, I'm nearing the 2yr. mark with a AM5600 w/o a hitch in part due to the 2" tubing I use....less back-pressure on the seal Bob

I'm not big on much more than 5 turnovers or so through the sump. I think that you can do just fine at that rate. The rest of the flow is from whatever method you please. The SEQ12 FWIW uses 1.5" in/out.
